Château De Pray

I give this property, my highest commendations!

+ An absolutely gorgeous, château, full of period flavor, set in a beautiful gardens with a lovely swimming pool. Very convenient to Amboise, a beautiful town in its own right and well worth visiting, centrally located to other outstanding locations. I just wish we could stay more than one night, but we were expected in Paris the next day. Be sure not to miss the excellent breakfast in a gorgeous dining room.

Enttäuschendes Erlebnis trotz traumhafter Lage

+ Hotel: Château de Pray Bewertung: 7/10 Bewertungstext: Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt im Château de Pray anlässlich unseres 25. Hochzeitstags gebucht und uns auf ein besonderes Erlebnis gefreut. Die Lage des Hotels ist tatsächlich wunderschön – sehr ruhig, mit einem idyllischen Garten und Tieren, die eine tolle Atmosphäre schaffen. Leider konnte das Gesamtpaket unsere Erwartungen nicht erfüllen. Besonders enttäuschend war, dass das hoteleigene Restaurant geschlossen war. Gerade bei einem Preis von knapp 400 € pro Nacht und der abgelegenen Lage hätten wir erwartet, dass dies klar und deutlich kommuniziert wird. Laut Personal stand dies wohl in den E-Mails, jedoch nicht ausreichend hervorgehoben. Der Empfang war eher kühl und wenig serviceorientiert. Uns wurden lediglich Listen mit Restaurants überreicht, ohne konkrete Empfehlungen oder Hinweise, welche tatsächlich geöffnet sind. Auch die Organisation im Hotel ließ zu wünschen übrig: Bereits um 7 Uhr morgens entstand durch Arbeiten im Außenbereich erheblicher Lärm. Zudem standen schon um 9 Uhr frische Handtücher auf den Fluren, was den Eindruck vermittelte, dass Gäste möglichst früh abreisen sollen – obwohl Checkout erst um 11 Uhr ist. Das Frühstück war qualitativ in Ordnung, jedoch sehr eingeschränkt in der Auswahl. Für ein Hotel dieser Kategorie hätten wir deutlich mehr Vielfalt erwartet. Besonders negativ fiel das Verhalten einer Mitarbeiterin im Frühstücksraum auf, die eher unfreundlich und wenig hilfsbereit wirkte. Beim Checkout wurde unser Feedback zwar zur Kenntnis genommen, jedoch ohne echte Entschuldigung oder spürbare Reaktion. Fazit: Wunderschöne Lage und schöne Anlage, aber deutliche Schwächen im Service, in der Kommunikation und im Gesamtangebot. Für den Preis haben wir deutlich mehr erwartet.

− Review l'orangerie The setting is genuinely special. A dining room carved into the rock, arched windows onto the château courtyard, the kind of place that makes you feel the evening is going to be worth it. And for the first part of the night, it was. Friendly service, attentive staff, good food. We were a table of five, three on the tasting menu and two ordering à la carte, and things started well. Then the room got busier, and things started to slip. **The dietary substitution** One person in our group is lactose intolerant. We flagged it early, the waiter checked with the kitchen, and the proposed swap for a goat cheese dish was: half a lettuce, two flowers, olive oil and balsamic on the side. That was it. Half a lettuce. In a Michelin-starred restaurant, with time to prepare something thoughtful. We would have been far more generous with this review, but a plain salad deserves a plain and dry review. So here we are. **Service** Started strong, faded badly as the restaurant filled up. The younger staff were clearly still learning and were left quite exposed once the room got busy. We ended up pouring our own wine at multiple points, which we genuinely do not mind, but it does not belong in this type of restaurant. **Food and pacing** The first courses were good. Solid cooking, nice presentation, no complaints. But one of the à la carte desserts, a galette, came out overcooked and burned. That one should not have made it past the kitchen. And the time between dishes was excessive at points, over 30 minutes between some courses, which at this price point and with this reputation is hard to justify.

Local limpo, com acomodações modernizadas e atendentes simpaticos.

+ O fato de estar em um castelo muito antigo torna possível imaginar o local como seria no século X. Apesar de não ser um castelo com muito requinte, apenas uma casa (um castelo para a época) muito grande com boa visualização da região, foi possível imaginar como se vivia naquele tempo. Apesar de não ser muito central, o hotel possui um charme muito especial e vale a hospedagem, principalmente se houver facilidade de deslocamento para a cidade (carro por exemplo).

− O consumo de alimentos (vinho no meu caso) somente era possível em locais muito específicos do hotel. Apesar de existirem mesas e cadeiras externas na frente das minhas acomodações, o consumo não era permitido naquele local. Também não foram fornecidas muitas informações quanto ao uso do espaço em frente da casa principal (um belo jardim com uma vista linda), tais como se era possível o consumo de vinho ou quais os serviços eram possíveis no local. O horário de funcionamento dos serviços de alimentação é um pouco restrito, mas os funcionários tentaram otimizar o consumo perguntando por telefone, se haveria alguma preferência após o encerramento das atividades. Apesar dessas restrições, o outro lado é o silêncio e a tranquilidade que isso fornece.

Met expectations once again. Friendly and very hospitable staff.

+ Our 2nd stay here. By chance, we had exactly the same room as last time. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was well presented. At our time of travel the restaurant was not open but staff assisted with alternative restaurant bookings once again.

− Le manque de standing, les fautes de goût pour une chambre à 300€ la nuit: -décorations de Noël bas de gamme comme on en trouve dans des pavillons de zones périurbaines - chaise bébé en plastique à fleurs horrible dans la salle "d'époque " du petit déjeuner -quand on a voulu prendre un verre en chambre, aucun choix de whisky et ils reprennent le plateau tout de suite car ils n'en ont qu'un ! -moquette rayée affreuse dans les couloirs qui mènent aux chambres -manque de choix pour le petit déjeuner -signalisation défaillante de l'hôtel, aucun panneau sur la route -potager et serre à l'abandon dans le jardin

+ Un accueil formidable! merci à Pierre et Laura! cadre magnifique et le dîner au château délicieux! la chambre très agréable et au calme, le salon nous a aussi beaucoup séduit de par son décor et son ambiance feutrée et chaleureuse ! petit plus: La table de jeu d'échecs!

優雅で気持ちの良い滞在でした。

+ 少し季節がはずれましたが、美しいお庭と雰囲気のある部屋で気持ちよく過ごせました。 たまたま宿泊客が少なかったため、お部屋をアップグレードしていただいて、広々と使うことができました。 日曜日の宿泊で、残念ながらレストランはあいていませんでしたが、朝食は美味しくお腹いっぱい食べて満足しました。夕食はおすすめしていただいた町のレストランでとり、これもとても美味しくて楽しい時間を過ごすことができました。 大満足でした。ありがとうございました。

+ A beautiful chateau overlooking the Loire Valley. Pierre was exceptionally helpful giving great restaurant recommendations. Quiet, spotless room appointed with lovely, authentic style. Beautiful views.

Exceptional

Absolutely recommended.

+ This hotel was a complete delight. From check in to check out, pool to food and the complete hotel experience/ambience makes you smile. Also, a visit to Le Clos Lucé a few minutes away in Amboise is a 'must'. Great experience and sums up why I love the Loire Valley.

Experience not in line with the price per night. Decor and some of the service misses the mark

+ The location and view are lovely, overlooking gardens and a nice pool area. Staff is friendly

− Could be a wonderful Chateau Hotel but misses the mark. The decor looks tired and very hodge podge, mid 2000s modern bathrooms but faux historic decor elsewhere (poor quality fabric...velours), a 1980s rug in the corridors. It could all be decorated with real antiques from a brocante and would look more authentic. Cleaning staff left their cleaning buckets and products out all throughout the hallways in the morning which takes away from the experience.

Chateau Amboise

+ So far so good. The Chateau is beautiful and rich with history. The staff is great and the location of the property is great

+ I first visited the Chateau in 2003. It is in a charming location and there is much to like about it. I noticed the bathrooms have been refurbished since then and that was good, as was the food and the bed was very comfortable. However a few things need urgent attention, most notably the wifi, which was appalling. Using an unsecured network is not acceptable in this day and age and loading anything took forever. I wondered in fact if the wifi was the same setup as 22 years ago! The hotel also needs to provide a mini fridge in the rooms. Another guest asked about this too, not just as a mini bar but also for medication which needs to be kept cool. The carpet in the room was covered in flakes of paint around the window. I got the impression that just enough investment has been made to keep things going… but even with its historic charm they are going to have to do more than that to keep up with the times.

Expensive and in need of refurbishment

− The Chateaux is overdue a renovation. The much vaunted resteraunt was disappointing to say the least, with too much effort on the ‘frills’ like serving water every 5 mins but serving our own wine having asked 3 times and the food was heavy on presentation but light on flavour - it also took nearly 2 hrs to get to the main course.
