+ A great hotel to stay. A relaxed slightly quirky atmosphere with rooms and bungalows available. We stayed in the part of the hotel on the Tarifa to Algeciras road. From the welcoming check-in to the restaurant staff, everyone was friendly and helpful. Great customer service and excellent food in the restaurant, booking recommended as it got busy very quickly with lunch guests. The pool area was a very decent size and with a similar relaxed vibe. A bonus was the offer of using the hotel garage to park our motorcycle.

+ This was an oasis for us after climbing the Gibraltar rock, with the pools, great staff, food and wine. Breakfast buffet is amazing.

A Fabulous Experience at The Mesón de Sancho

+ I’m compelled to write about the wonderful Hotel Mesón de Sancho, half way between Algeciras and Tarifa, Andalucia, Spain. We stayed three nights. We were three people travelling and were received at this blissful roadside hotel, which has been run by the Sancho Family since 1954. Fernando Sancho, the owner, is present every day and welcomed us personally. He is a very gracious host and after some lively chat about our common childhood memories, he offered us a drink courtesy of the house. A delicate and generous touch. Our rooms and bathrooms, en suite, were spacious and immaculately clean. The beds were very comfortable. Our balconies offered panoramic views of the North African coast and lush, green, sub-tropical foliage owing to a small brook running through the property. I used to fish for Terrapins there as a boy. Modestia looked after our rooms efficiently and kindly. The hotel also boasts a beautifully clean and idyllic swimming pool. We were received at reception by Miguel and Rocio, in perfect English. Miguel is the third generation of his family to work at the hotel. His grandfather served my father in the 60’s. I was taught to make caramel by his uncle, at age eight. The restaurant is run efficiently and elegantly by Anya, who offers impeccable service, together with our servers Antonio and Bruno. The kitchen boasts a wide variety off Andalusian specialties, both beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. There are a wide selection of Spanish wines to accompany any chosen dish. I highly recommend the Gambas al Ajillo, Knuckle of Pork, the Tuna steak on a bed of smoked paprika and tomatoes. They cater happily for vegans and vegetarians. There are two desserts that cannot be missed and have been on the menu since they opened in the 50’s: Tarta Imperial (not the Russian recipe):- an almond, flour, butter, sugar and egg classic cold tart. An unexpected lovely gem.

+ A nice and very clean hotel. We were very charmed by the cleanliness of the whole hotel; by the friendly personnel whatever function they had; by the well prepared food (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Everybody seemed to like our little dog, and if we asked something for her they ran to take care of her needs. Therefor we came back in June for our 33th anniversary and it seemed like everybody was even more kind and friendly The fact that we came back says a lot about this place. I don’t know when but for sure we will come back.

Had an excellent stay in this beautiful, clean, relaxing hotel and enjoyed a delicious meal in the lovely restaurant.

+ Lovely, family owed hotel just outside Tarifa. Beautiful room, light, airy and spotlessly clean. Had a balcony with stunning views over countryside. Huge bathroom, air-con, small fridge and everything I could need for a short break visiting family. The pool area is secluded and peaceful and I noticed a small gym room with gym equipment and weights - but I didn't feel the need to try it out! The restaurant is a beautiful room and we had a very reasonably priced, delicious evening meal with very friendly and helpful waitress. It was disappointing that the restaurant wasn't busier - it certainly deserves to be but perhaps it was the time of year or a well kept secret. The hotel felt very safe as a solo female traveller and has an air of calm and relaxation. This will definitely be my first choice when I visit family again - hopefully soon.

+ The staff at the front desk were not very friendly at all and even though we knew it was on the highway we felt it was very dangerous try to get out of the hotel parking as the visibility was limited and the traffic was driving very fast as it is a highway.

+ Arrived late so parking was limited. The covered parking is across the busy 2 lane road. The gentleman at the front desk was prepared and polite, escorting us to our little bungalow...it was dark..nice touch. Unfortunately we left in the morning while still dark but from what I saw, it looks like a really nice place.

Nice place to stay.

+ We only overnighted here but it was a very convenient stop. Our only real complaint was the very poor Wi-Fi.

+ The hotel is about 15 kilometers from Tarifa. The staff, the facilities, and the breakfast are very good. The great breakfast terrace deserves special mention. The only point of criticism is the comparatively high price per night for this hotel category.

+ Great location in a quiet area with easy access to the town and beach.

Lovely hotel

+ Would stay here again. The bungalow was cozy and the gardens were so beautiful. Food was fantastic. Next time would stay longer than just one night.

+ Even though is right next to the highway it is very quiet. The staff was excellent and there was a good variety for breakfasts.

A gem of a hotel

+ Wonderful and comfortable property with a perfect location for accessing the region (with a car). The staff were incredibly understanding with our delayed-airplane late arrival (even keeping the kitchen open longer), and made our stay a total pleasure.

Handy for visiting Gibraltar, Tariffa or catching a ferry.

+ Meson de Sancho has quite an unimpressive exterior and you could be forgiven for driving by. However the interior is nicely decorated although the front lobby feels more like walking into a women’s dress shop than a hotel. We stayed here as part of the Plymouth-Dakar Rally. The rooms are spacious with excellent beds and we had a balcony. The outside pool in January was out of use. The staff were very friendly and the food was very reasonable. It is well situated for visiting Tariffa or Gibraltar as well as a convenient stopover for catching the ferries from Algeciras which is 15 minutes down the road.

Great stay . Such a great experience and surprise

+ All very clean and very nice people. The place has so much to offer. The place really had us surprised. Great facilities. Very calm and relax. A place to disconnect and to be away from everything. Great views , a feel like home experience

+ This was a pleasant surprise. I wish we spent more time at this property. The rooms were perfect and the grounds were stunning Buffet breakfast was excellent.

+ A wonderful spot to take a rest day to after two days in Tangier ,o on a driving holiday. Large rooms , great restaurant and a beautiful pool area to relax by.

Love this hotel

+ Loved this hotel, friendly helpful staff, very comfortable and inviting. Lovely room and terrace. Food was amazing, great brekkie, and dinner was just fab, best fish I’ve had so far. Will definitely stay again!

+ I love this charming hotel situated on the road between Algeciras and Tarifa. I thought there might be traffic noise but no such thing - just the gentle sound of a herd of goats nearby and the braying of a donkey. Decent sized rooms with terrace and a spacious bathroom. Lots of space to relax in both inside the hotel and outside around the large pool. I would definitely return.

Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff

+ Staff is very friendly, very helpful and accommodating. The hotel is beautifully decorated food is delicious from their kitchen, rooms are spotless as well as the entire hotel and grounds.

Good loacation for Morocco ferry’s

+ We stayed for two nights. Despite having a confirmed booking on arrival this was denied by the staff. Fortunately I had the confirmation email. We were part of a larger group - all of whom had pre booked - and the hotel didn’t have sufficient staff to cope. The restaurant was good. Our housekeeper brought us an extra blanket as the nights were cold. We were grateful and very comfortable. Ideally located for the ferry crossing to Morocco.

Correct mais loin de la ville.

+ Hotel en bord de route très bruyante mais l'intérieur est plutôt calme. Chambres correctes. belle piscine. Parking payant. Petit déjeuner agréable sur la terrasse. Tarifa est à 10mn de voiture.

Agradable

+ Habitación agradable bien decorada con vistas. Piscina espaciosa con entorno bien cuidado. Hotel con encanto, baño amplio, aunque la ventana da al pasillo común. Personal check-in serio y escueto. Smart TV con Netflix. A solo 10 min de Tarifa. Parking en teoria vale 9€ aunque yo no pagué nada (moto).

Weekend away

+ We booked a bungalow, for a couple with a small dog. Good size room, a/c, small fridge and private bathroom with small bath and shower. Each bungalow has an outside sitting area. The bungalow’s are located a few minutes walk from the main hotel, in the gardens near to the pool. When we stayed there were not too many guests using the pool, so was quite peaceful although there is a little road noise (could not hear it when inside). Pool a good size with loungers. We ate in the restaurant (nowhere else within walking distance). There was a good choice and the food was good and not overpriced. The hotel is about 10km from Tarifa.
