If you are looking for a vacation rental in Cadaqués, the first thing you should know is that the town is small and steep, so location matters more than in other destinations. The port area and the historic center are the most practical if you want to walk everywhere: restaurants, shops, and the seafront promenade. Here, apartments are usually old but charming, and the average price goes up because demand is high. If you prefer tranquility and views, the Portlligat road or the Es Pianc area offer houses and villas with terrace and garden, but you will need a car to go down to the center, especially to return uphill after dinner. Another option is the Es Poal beach area, flatter and closer to the water, ideal if you travel with children or people with reduced mobility.
The difference between areas is notable: the center is bustling in July and August, with terraces full until late; Portlligat is more residential and quiet, with the advantage of having Dalí's house nearby; and the upper part, towards the lighthouse or the campsite, offers the best views of the bay, but at the cost of walks or car trips. If you are looking for price, the months of May, June, and September are the perfect balance: the water is already good, there are fewer people, and rentals drop between 20 and 30% compared to August. In winter, many owners close or only rent by full weeks, so do not expect much availability between November and March.
To get there, the usual way is by car from Figueres along the GI-614 road, which winds for about 30 minutes; in summer, parking is a serious problem, so confirm if your accommodation includes a spot. There are also buses from Figueres and Barcelona, but they will limit you when moving to coves like Cala Nans or Cala Jugadora. Within the town, everything is done on foot, and for nearby coves, the best is to walk or rent a bike. Before booking, check if the accommodation has an elevator (many buildings do not), if the heating works outside the season, and if the price includes bed linen and towels, because in some apartments they charge extra. Also, ask about the security deposit and cancellation policy, which in Cadaqués is usually strict in summer. On HotelsCasa you currently have 83 accommodations, with an average price of 206 euros per night and the cheapest from 101 euros; most are apartments (56), followed by hotels (22), houses (20), villas (7), and smaller options like bed and breakfasts or guesthouses. Real examples you can see are Mimoses Apartaments, Pis Cala Tere, Es Volca, or Apartament Riera.
The months of May, June, and September are the most economical within the high season, with prices up to 30% lower than in August. In winter, there is little availability and many accommodations close, so do not expect great bargains between November and March.
The historic center or the port are the only truly practical areas without a vehicle, because everything is within walking distance. If you stay in Portlligat or the upper part, you will depend on uphill walks or taxis, which in summer are expensive and scarce.
By car, from Figueres it takes about 30 minutes via the GI-614, a winding road. There are also buses from Figueres and Barcelona, but the frequency is limited and they will not allow you to move freely to the coves.
Most require a security deposit that is returned upon departure, and free cancellation is usually limited to 30 or 60 days before check-in. In August, many owners require minimum stays of one week and payment in advance.
Vacation homes and villas are the most suitable if you are more than four, because they offer garden, terrace, and multiple bedrooms. Apartments are better for couples or small groups, and they are usually more central.
