Almería has more than three hundred kilometers of coastline, but it is worth knowing that the city and the province work quite differently when it comes to finding accommodation. If what you want is the beach and you do not plan to get around by car, the practical thing is to stay in the capital, in areas like El Zapillo or the Rambla itself, where you have urban hotels and apartments a ten-minute walk from the beach. If, on the contrary, you are looking for peace and quiet and scenery, the Cabo de Gata area or villages like San José, Agua Amarga or Las Negras offer holiday homes and villas, but there public transport is conspicuous by its absence: you need a car, no question. The interior, with villages like Vélez-Rubio or Sorbas, is another option if you come to hike or visit the Alcazaba and the deserts, and prices are usually lower than on the coast.
The main difference between one area and another lies in the type of accommodation and the pace. In the capital you will find city hotels, such as the Torreluz Centro or the Crisol Almería, and urban apartments that fill up during the week for work reasons. On the coast, especially in the Natural Park, apartments and guesthouses dominate, with a much more relaxed atmosphere geared towards weekend getaways. If you travel in high season, from June to September, prices rise considerably, especially in July and August; in contrast, May, June and September are ideal months because the weather is still good and rates drop. The average price in the province is around 134 euros per night, but you can find options from 53 euros if you book in advance or in low season.
To get there, the most convenient option is to fly to Almería airport, which is about ten kilometers from the city, or take an AVE train to the high-speed station, which connects with Madrid in about five hours. Once there, getting around by rental car is almost essential if you want to explore the coast or the interior; the urban bus works well in the capital, but connections between villages are scarce and slow. Before booking, check carefully whether the accommodation has parking, because in the center of Almería and in the park villages parking can be a nightmare. Also check whether the kitchen is equipped so you can cook some meals, and whether cancellation is flexible, because the weather on the coast can change your plans. With 431 accommodations available, among apartments, hotels, villas and guesthouses, you have room to compare without stress.

May, June and September are the most balanced months, with good weather and more reasonable prices than in the middle of summer. If you are looking for the beach and do not mind the heat, July and August are valid, but you will have to pay more and put up with more people.
If you want an urban beach and restaurants nearby, the capital, in areas like El Zapillo, is the most practical. If you prefer nature and tranquility, Cabo de Gata and its villages are better, but you need a car to get around.
In the city you can use the urban bus and walk, since the center is small. For the province, public transport is scarce, so the recommended option is to rent a car at the airport or at the train station.
Always check the cancellation policy, because some apartments require payment in advance and do not refund the money if you cancel with little notice. Also check whether the price includes final cleaning, towels and sheets, and whether there is a supplement for pets or parking.
