Benasque, in the middle of the Aragonese Pyrenees, is one of those places where vacation rentals make sense almost all year round. Here you won't find just one good area, but several, and the choice depends on what you want to do. The village center, around Plaza Mayor and Calle Mayor, is the most practical if you go without a car or prefer to have bars, supermarkets, and the tourist office at hand. From there, the trails toward La Besurta or the San Jaime bridge start on foot, although you have to climb a bit of a slope. If what you're looking for is tranquility and views, the peripheral developments like Cerler, about 6 kilometers away, or the Anciles area, 2 kilometers away, are better options. Cerler is right next to the ski resort, so in winter you save yourself the car and parking queues; in summer, however, it feels more impersonal and you depend on the car for everything. Anciles is a small, charming village, but with fewer services.

The main difference between staying in the old town and staying in the outskirts is noise and convenience. In the center, in high season, there's activity until late, but that's also where the most economical accommodations and the oldest apartments are. In the developments, accommodations are usually newer, with a garden or terrace, and better value for money if you travel in a group. As for prices, the cheapest time is usually from November to mid-December and in March, outside of long weekends and school holidays. In January and February, although it's not high ski season, weekends go up because of the snow. Easter and summer are the most expensive times, by far. To get there, the usual thing is to go by car on the A-139 from Barbastro or through the Vielha tunnel if you come from France or Catalonia. Once there, getting around between Benasque, Cerler, and the nearby villages is easy, but in winter you need chains or winter tires, because secondary roads freeze. Before booking, check if the accommodation includes bed linen and towels, because in many apartments in the area they are charged separately. Also check if it has individual or central heating, and if the price includes firewood consumption if there's a fireplace.
