Benasque, in the heart of the Aragonese Pyrenees, is one of those places where the valley rules. If you're looking for an apartment, you have 135 options in the area, with an average price of 180 euros per night and the cheapest from 94. Most are concentrated in the village center, which is the most practical if you don't want to depend on the car to go to dinner or shop. There you'll find narrow streets, a mountain atmosphere and everything at hand, although parking can be a headache in high season. A little higher up, towards the Anciles road or the Cerler area, the apartments usually have more views and tranquility, but you need a vehicle to go down to the village or up to the slopes. The main difference between some areas and others is that: convenience versus silence and landscape.
If what matters to you is skiing, staying on the Cerler road brings you closer to the resort, which is about ten minutes by car from Benasque. On the other hand, if you come in summer to go hiking or go to the spa, the village center leaves you within walking distance of everything. Prices drop quite a bit outside high season: January and February are expensive because of the snow, and August too, because of families. On the other hand, May, June, September and October are months where you find clear deals, with the same apartment for quite a bit less. It's also worth looking at weekdays, because everything goes up on the weekend.
To get there, the usual way is to take the A-2 to Barbastro and then the A-139, which goes up the valley to Benasque. From Barcelona it's about three and a half hours, and from Zaragoza about two and a half. In winter, bring chains or winter tires, because the road can have ice. Once there, the car is almost essential to get around, unless you stay in the center and don't leave the village. Before booking, check if the apartment includes bed linen and towels, because some charge for them separately. Also look at whether it has individual or central heating, whether it allows pets and whether the price includes final cleaning. And watch out for stairs: many are in buildings without an elevator, and with suitcases or children that makes a difference. Real examples you can find are Apartamentos Los Lagos, Apartamento Casa Chloe, Apartamento El Refugio de Sara or El Puente, each with its own style and location.
The average price is around 180 euros per night, although you can find options from 94 euros. Of course, it depends a lot on the season: in January and August it goes up, and in May or September it goes down quite a bit.
The best time is outside high season, especially in May, June, September and October. Weekdays are also cheaper than weekends, even in winter.
If you don't want to use the car for everything, the center of Benasque is the most convenient, with shops and bars within walking distance. The Cerler road is better if you're going to ski or prefer tranquility, but you need a vehicle to go down to the village.
You get there via the A-139 from Barbastro, with about two and a half hours from Zaragoza and three and a half from Barcelona. In winter, bring chains. Once there, the car is almost essential, unless you stay in the center.
Check if bed linen and towels are included, as well as final cleaning. Also look at whether there is an elevator, whether the heating is individual or central, and whether they allow pets, because not all of them do.
