To get there, the most practical option is to fly to Málaga and take a direct bus from the airport (about two hours) or hire a car, because Nerja has no train station. Once there, the centre is easy to get around on foot, but to get to the Maro coves or Frigiliana you need your own vehicle. Before booking, check whether the apartment includes air conditioning (in summer it is almost essential), whether the kitchen has a dishwasher or washing machine, and whether the final price includes cleaning and bed linen. It is also worth looking at recent reviews about noise and the condition of the furniture, because with such a wide range of options there is everything. And if you travel out of season, ask about heating: many houses only have cold air.
