Hotels and places to stay in Logroño

Logroño is not a huge city, and that works in your favor. Most points of interest are less than twenty minutes away on foot, so choosing an area depends more on your plans than on distance. If you're coming to eat and go for tapas, the Casco Antiguo, around calle Laurel and calle San Juan, is the most practical: you have the bars a step away and the atmosphere until late. On the other hand, if you prefer to sleep without noise, look for something around the Gran Vía or next to the Parque del Ebro; they are quiet areas, well connected and with easier parking. The Madre de Dios neighborhood, on the other side of the river, is a middle option: more residential, with good prices and ten minutes from the center on foot.

The differences between some areas and others are noticeable above all in the price and in the type of accommodation. In the center, apartments and guesthouses predominate, which are the majority of the offer: of the 337 available accommodations, 282 are apartments. They are ideal if you travel as a couple or in a small group and want freedom of schedules. Hotels, only 21, are concentrated in the area of the station and avenida de la Paz, and tend to be more classic. Vacation homes, barely 5, are more scattered and usually require minimum stays. If your budget is tight, the lowest price is around 55 euros per night, but the average is 159, so don't be surprised if the normal thing is to pay between 80 and 120 for a decent room in mid-season.

As for when to book, Logroño is more expensive in September, during the grape harvest and the fiestas de San Mateo, and also in June, because of the fiestas de San Bernabé. If you can, avoid those long weekends and look for weekdays: prices drop quite a bit on Sundays and Mondays. To get there, the AVE train leaves you in the center in a few minutes from Madrid or Zaragoza, and the bus station is ten minutes on foot from the old town. Once there, get around on foot; the city bus is useful only to go to La Rioja or the Berceo shopping center, but you won't need it for the essentials. Before booking, take a good look at whether the accommodation has a physical reception or is self-check-in, because many apartments do not have a 24-hour reception and you will have to coordinate your arrival. Also check whether the price includes cleaning or taxes, because in apartments they usually add them at the end, and whether there is an elevator, because many old buildings in the center do not have one.
