Hotels and places to stay in Mogan

Mogán, in the southwest of Gran Canaria, is one of those places where accommodation makes a big difference between a quiet holiday and a constant back-and-forth by car. The municipality is large and not everything is the famous marina. If you're looking for beach and atmosphere, the logical thing is to stay near Puerto de Mogán, but if you prefer more space and less noise, the developments in the upper area or the inland villages will give you more for less money. On the HotelsCasa listing there are currently 319 accommodations, with an average price of 181 euros per night and the cheapest at 86. The offer is overwhelmingly apartments (206), followed by holiday homes (44), villas (31), aparthotels (15), hotels (10) and a few scattered private houses. The average rating is around 3.3 stars, so don't expect widespread luxury, but rather functionality and good terraces.

As for areas, Puerto de Mogán is the most in demand: it has the port, the beach, restaurants and the seafront promenade atmosphere. Here prices go up and parking is a real problem in high season. Ten minutes by car is Mogán casco, the original village, more authentic and with supermarkets and bars at normal prices; from there you go down to the coast by car or bus. Developments such as Vista Golf, Tauro or Arguineguín (the latter already in the neighbouring municipality but very close) offer complexes with a pool and sea views, but you need a vehicle for everything. If what you want is to disconnect, the rural houses towards the interior, such as those in Veneguera or Soria, are another story: silence, mountains and lower prices, although you are far from the beach.

To get a better price, avoid July and August and also the weeks of Easter and Christmas. May, June, September and October are the months with the best balance between weather and rates. Getting there is simple: from Gran Canaria airport (about 40 minutes) you take the GC-1 to the Mogán turn-off; the taxi costs about 50-60 euros and the bus (line 91 or 32) leaves you in the village for less than 10. To get around the area, a rental car is almost essential if you stay outside the port, because the distances between developments are short but the hills and the heat don't invite walking. Before booking, check carefully whether the price includes final cleaning, bed linen and towels, because in apartments and houses this is usually an extra. Also check the cancellation policy and whether there is a security deposit, and check whether the accommodation has a lift or is on a high floor, because many buildings in the area don't have one.
