Apartments in Cadaqués

Cadaqués is one of those places that change depending on the time of day and on where you rest your head. With 56 apartments available on HotelsCasa, the offer is broad, but it is worth knowing that not all of them are in the same area or offer the same experience. The old town centre, around the church of Santa Maria and the cobbled streets leading down to the port, is ideal if you want to walk everywhere: restaurants, shops and the seafront promenade. Here the apartments tend to be small, full of charm, but with less light and sometimes on steep slopes. If you prefer peace and sea views, the Es Portitxó area or the road to Roses, to the south, has more modern buildings and spacious terraces, although to eat out you will have to take the car or walk for a good while. To the north, towards the Cap de Creus, the apartments are more isolated, perfect if you are looking for absolute silence and sunrises with no neighbours, but assume that most services are far away.

The main difference between one area and another is the balance between convenience and scenery. In the centre you gain life and lose parking, which in summer is a serious problem: spaces are scarce and expensive. On the outskirts, parking is usually included or it is easier to find a spot, but you need a vehicle for everything. If you come in high season, bear in mind that the town fills up and traffic inside is slow; many people choose to park at the entrance and get around on foot. To get there, the most common way is to drive along the GI-614 from Roses, a winding road but with views that make up for it. There is also a bus from Figueres (the Sagalés line), which takes about 40 minutes, and in summer there is a shuttle service from the park-and-ride at the entrance to the town. Once inside, the best thing is to walk; the distances are short and the car will only give you headaches.

As for prices, the lowest you will find right now is 101 euros per night, and the average is around 197, with an average rating of 3.7 stars. That means there are options for every budget, but prices really drop outside July and August. May, June and September are the ideal months: the water is already fine, there are fewer people and apartments drop by between 20 and 30 per cent. If your dates are flexible, avoid Easter week and long weekends, which send rates soaring. Before booking, look carefully at whether the price includes bed linen and towels (in many apartments it does not), whether there is air conditioning (it is not as common as it seems) and whether the kitchen has a dishwasher or washing machine, because that changes the stay a lot. Also check the photos of the actual views, not the cover ones, and read recent comments about noise: in the centre, the bars can stretch the night out until late. Finally, confirm whether the accommodation has a lift, because many old buildings do not and suitcases up spiral staircases are not fun.
