If you are looking at holiday apartments in Foz, the first thing you should know is that the offer is concentrated in two clearly different areas. On the one hand, the town centre and the seafront promenade, where you have everything within reach: supermarkets, pharmacies, bars and A Rapadoira beach just a few metres away. On the other, the Benquerencia area and the road towards As Catedrais, quieter and aimed at those looking for nature and hiking routes. Apartments in the centre tend to be more practical if you are travelling without a car or with small children, while those on the outskirts offer more space and parking, although you depend on a vehicle for almost everything.
The main difference between one area and another lies in the atmosphere and access to the beaches. Foz town centre is bustling in summer, with terraces and a family atmosphere, and the accommodation tends to be renovated flats in multi-storey buildings. In the As Catedrales area, by contrast, the apartments are more modern, with gardens or a communal pool, and you are a short walk from the As Catedrales sandbank, although you must book your visit to the beach in high season. If what you are looking for is silence, choose the area of Llas beach, to the west, where there are fewer buildings and more plots with low houses.
As for prices, the 43 euros per night that you find as a minimum rate usually appears in low season, from October to May, or in last-minute bookings on odd days. The average price is around 124 euros, and in August or Easter you can pay considerably more if you do not book in advance. To get there, the most comfortable option is by car: from Lugo city it is about 45 minutes along the LU-133, and from A Coruña a little over an hour and a half along the AP-9 to Mondoñedo and then the regional road. If you come by bus, the Lugo-Foz line stops in the centre, but to get to the beaches or the As Catedrales area you will need a taxi or a rental car.
Before booking, it is worth checking three things. First, whether the apartment includes bed linen and towels, because some charge for them separately or require you to bring them. Second, the pet policy: many do not allow dogs, and those that do usually ask for a supplement. Third, the garage space, because in August parking on the street in Foz is complicated, and if the accommodation does not have parking, you will have to add the cost of a public garage. Also check whether the final cleaning is included or is an extra charge, something common in professionally managed apartments. With this information, and knowing that there are eight apartments available on the platform, with an average rating of 3.6 stars, you can compare with peace of mind. Examples such as Monqar Playa Foz, Monqar, Alojamientos Foz 3000 or Las Catedrales give you an idea of the variety: from central flats to complexes with a pool.
From October to May, outside public holiday weekends, is when prices drop to 43 euros per night. June and September are a middle ground, with good weather and more reasonable rates than in July and August.
Foz town centre, around A Rapadoira beach, is the only really comfortable option without a vehicle. There you have supermarkets, restaurants and the beach on foot, and the bus stop is nearby. The As Catedrales or Benquerencia areas are prettier but you depend on a car for everything.
By car, from Lugo it takes about 45 minutes along the LU-133, and from A Coruña around an hour and a half along the AP-9 to Mondoñedo and then the LU-133. By bus, the Lugo-Foz line is the most direct, but to get around the coast you will need to rent a car or use taxis.
Most ask for an advance payment of 30% or the first night, and the rest is paid on arrival. Free cancellation is usually limited to 7 or 14 days before check-in, and many charge a supplement for final cleaning or for pets, so it is worth reading the small print.
Yes, quite a lot. Those in the centre are flats in buildings, with less space and no common areas, but you are close to everything. Those in As Catedrales tend to be more modern complexes, with a pool or garden, and quieter, although about 10 minutes by car from Foz town centre.
