FOZLIDAYS! Apartamento, parking & relax
★★★★Rúa Costa do Castro 3, Foz10,0 Fantastic · 11 reviewsTravelers Club members: €1 off per nightFoz, on the coast of Lugo, offers a mix of beach, estuary and rural surroundings that you should know about before choosing where to sleep. The most practical area is the town centre and the seafront promenade, near A Rapadoira beach and the port: there you have restaurants, supermarkets and quick access to the beach, although in high season parking can be difficult. If you are looking for peace and quiet, the estuary area and the surroundings of As Catedrales beach, about ten kilometres from the centre, are ideal for switching off, but you will need a car for everything. In between, the housing developments on the Burela road and the Nois area offer houses with gardens and more silence, in exchange for depending on a vehicle to go shopping or have dinner.
The main difference between some areas and others is access to services and proximity to the sea. In the centre you have everything on foot, but the accommodations are usually apartments in buildings, with less outdoor space. On the outskirts and in the nearby villages, holiday homes gain in square metres, terrace and privacy, but you lose the convenience of going out on foot. If you are travelling as a family or with a pet, a house with a plot makes up for the drive; if what you want is beach and tapas, stay in the town centre. Prices drop notably outside July and August: in June and September you can find the same apartment for 30% less, and in spring or autumn, even below the 38 euros per night that is the minimum available right now. The average for the municipality is 124 euros, so if you see something for less than 80 outside the season, it is a good sign.
To get there, the most common way is to drive on the A-8 to the Foz exit; from Lugo capital it is about 45 minutes, and from A Coruña or Asturias, around an hour and a half. There is also a bus from Lugo and Burela, but the frequency is low and it does not reach all the accommodation areas. Once there, getting around without a car is complicated if you stay outside the centre, because the distances between the town beach and As Catedrales are several kilometres. Before booking, check whether the accommodation includes a garage space or free parking, because in summer it is a real problem. Also check whether the kitchen is fully equipped if you plan to cook, and whether the wifi reaches all the rooms well, especially in large houses. And look at the photos of the area, not just the interior: a nice apartment but in a block without a lift or with construction work next door can ruin your stay. With 133 accommodations available, including 105 apartments, 17 houses, 8 hotels and some hostel or bed and breakfast option, you have room to compare calmly. Examples such as Monqar, Monqar Playa Foz, Isla Nova Hotel or Las Catedrales give you an idea of the variety, but do not settle for the first one you see: look at recent reviews and the exact location on the map.
Frequently asked questions
What is the average price per night in Foz and when is it cheaper?
The average price is 124 euros, and the lowest you can find right now is 38 euros. To pay less, avoid July and August; in May, June or September prices drop quite a bit, and in winter there are offers well below the average.
What is the best time to go to Foz?
If you are looking for beach and good weather, June and September are the best months: fewer people than in August, reasonable water and lower prices. In July and August there is atmosphere and everything is open, but you will have more crowds and higher prices. For walking and seeing As Catedrales at low tide, any month outside winter works.
Which area is best to stay in if I do not have a car?
The centre of Foz, around A Rapadoira beach and the port, is the only practical option without a car. There you have supermarkets, bars and the beach on foot, but the accommodations are mostly apartments in buildings. If you stay in the As Catedrales area or in the nearby villages, you will definitely need a vehicle.
How do I get to Foz and how do I get around once there?
By car, on the A-8 to the Foz exit; from Lugo capital it is about 45 minutes. There is a bus from Lugo and Burela, but with low frequency. To get around the municipality and visit the distant beaches, the most comfortable option is the car, because the distances between the centre and As Catedrales are about ten kilometres.
What booking conditions should I check before paying?
Look at whether the accommodation offers free cancellation, because on the Galician coast the weather can change your plans. Also check whether they charge a supplement for cleaning, pets or parking, and whether they ask for a deposit. In holiday homes, it is common for check-in to be from 4 or 5 p.m. and check-out before 11 a.m., so confirm this before booking.
