Calvià is one of those municipalities in Mallorca that has almost everything, but it's worth knowing exactly what you're looking for before choosing where to sleep. The coast is divided into several areas with very different personalities. On one hand there's Palmanova and Magaluf, where you'll find the largest concentration of hotels and apartments, a lively atmosphere, wide beaches with fine sand, and an endless range of entertainment options. On the other, Portals Nous and Bendinat are the quieter and more exclusive option, with a marina, high-end restaurants, and residential developments. If you prefer something in between, Santa Ponça offers a beautiful bay, a seafront promenade, and a good mix of services without the bustle of Magaluf. And inland or in areas like El Toro or Cala Vinyes, accommodation tends to be more spacious, ideal if you're travelling as a family or with a group.
As for prices, the high season in July and August is the most expensive and has the least availability. If you can, consider travelling in June or September: the sea is still warm, there are plenty of hours of sunshine, and prices drop considerably compared to the peak. In May and October there are also interesting options, although some coastal services or restaurants may be closed. To get there, the usual thing is to fly to Palma de Mallorca and from there take a rental car or a taxi; the airport is about twenty or thirty minutes away depending on the area of Calvià you choose. Public transport exists, with bus lines connecting Palma to the main coastal centres, but if you want to move around freely to visit coves, viewpoints, or inland villages, a car is almost essential.
Before booking, take a good look at what type of accommodation you need. In Calvià there are 69 available accommodations, with an average rating of 3.4 stars, so don't expect widespread luxury. The lowest price is around 101 euros per night, but the average rises to 321, which shows there's a big difference between options. Hotels are the most numerous, with 29, followed by villas (17), apartments (8), aparthotels (8), holiday homes (4), and a few more private houses. If you're travelling as a couple and looking for peace and quiet, an aparthotel or a small villa may work out better for you than a large hotel. If you're going with children, an apartment with a kitchen gives you more flexibility. And if what you want is not to worry about anything, a hotel with full board simplifies your day. Always check whether the price includes cleaning, tourist taxes, and whether the accommodation has a pool or direct beach access, because in this area not all places are right by the sea.
The average price per night is around 321 euros, although you can find options from 101 euros. The difference depends a lot on the area, the time of year, and the type of accommodation you choose.
June and September are the ideal months: good weather, pleasant sea, and lower prices than in July and August. May and October also work, but with fewer open services available.
If you want atmosphere and a lively beach, Palmanova or Magaluf. For peace and quiet and luxury, Portals Nous or Bendinat. Santa Ponça is a good middle ground for families, and El Toro or Cala Vinyes if you prefer space and less noise.
There are buses connecting Palma with the main coastal areas, but frequencies drop outside the season. To visit remote coves or inland villages, the most practical thing is to rent a car at the airport.
Look at whether the price includes tourist taxes, cleaning, and bed linen. It's also worth checking the cancellation policy, because many accommodations offer cheaper rates but they are non-refundable. And confirm whether the pool or beach access is included or has restricted hours.
