If you are looking at apartments in Ayamonte, the first thing you should know is that the offer is concentrated in two well-differentiated areas. On the one hand there is the historic centre, around the plaza de la Laguna and calle Canalejas, where you will find charming renovated buildings, such as the Loft 1 or the Suite Plaza de la Laguna by Dulce. Here everything is done on foot: the food market, the tapas bars, the river promenade and the marina are less than ten minutes away. Of course, parking is difficult and the streets are narrow, so if you are travelling with a large car, consider whether it is worth it. The other area is the area of Punta del Moral and the beach of Isla Canela, about five kilometres from the centre. There the complexes are more modern, with a pool, gardens and parking, and most are a short walk from the sand. It is the most comfortable option if you are going with children or if what you are looking for is not to take the car to go to the beach, although to have dinner or shop you will have to drive.
The difference between some areas and others is also noticeable in the price and the atmosphere. In the centre, the apartments are usually smaller but are better connected with Portugal, because the border of Vila Real de Santo António is ten minutes away on foot. In Punta del Moral, on the other hand, larger accommodations oriented towards stays of a week or more predominate. If what you want is to combine beach and town, I recommend looking near the marina, which is a halfway point: you have the Guadiana river on one side and the exit towards the beach by car in five minutes. As for prices, the cheapest you will find is from November to March, when the average drops below 119 euros per night and you can find options from 60 euros. In July and August, on the other hand, prices rise quite a bit and it is advisable to book at least two months in advance. Spring and the month of October are the best balance: good weather, fewer people and more reasonable rates.
To get there, the most practical thing is the car: from Huelva capital it takes about 45 minutes along the A-49, and from Sevilla, an hour and a half. If you come from the Portuguese Algarve, you cross the international bridge and you are there in ten minutes. There are also buses from Huelva and Sevilla that leave you at the Ayamonte station, but to move between the centre and the beach you will need a taxi or a rental car, because the distance is not walkable. Before booking, take a good look at whether the apartment includes bed linen and towels, because in many cases they are charged separately or you have to bring them. Also check whether the price includes final cleaning, and whether the accommodation has a lift, because many old buildings in the centre do not have one. Lastly, check the cancellation policy: in high season they are usually flexible up to a week before, but for last-minute deals they do not accept changes.
The average price is around 119 euros per night, although you can find options from 60 euros in low season. In August, the average easily rises to 150-180 euros, so it is advisable to book in advance.
May, June and October are the ideal months: pleasant temperatures, usable beach and lower prices than in July and August. In addition, there are fewer crowds and the restaurants are not saturated.
It depends on what you prefer. The centre is perfect for walking everywhere and crossing into Portugal, but it is noisy and parking is difficult. The area of Punta del Moral and Isla Canela is quieter and more family-friendly, ideal if you are going with children or by car.
The centre is perfectly walkable, and to go to the beach there are city buses that leave every 20-30 minutes in summer. If you come in winter, the frequency drops a lot, so better a taxi or renting a car for a few days.
Look at whether the price includes sheets, towels and final cleaning, because some apartments charge for this separately. Also check the cancellation policy and whether there is a supplement for pets or for a cot, which sometimes does not appear in the initial price.
