Can Picafort is a destination in the bay of Alcúdia that combines a long beach with a family atmosphere. If you're looking for apartments, you have eight options in the area, with an average price of 294 euros per night and the cheapest from 113 euros. The offer is varied, although most are concentrated in two areas: the seafront promenade and the old town, near the plaza and the marina. Staying facing the sea gives you direct access to the sand and the beach bars, but nighttime noise in summer can be annoying. On the other hand, the interior streets, five to ten minutes' walk away, are quieter and usually have better prices for the same category. The main difference between them is the distance to the beach and the orientation: those facing east get the sun in the morning, and those facing west in the afternoon, something to keep in mind if you like the terrace.
As for the price, don't expect great deals in July and August, when demand sends rates soaring. If you can, travel in June or September: the water is still fine, there are fewer people and apartments drop by up to thirty percent. The months of April, May and October are the cheapest, but some establishments close outside the season, so it's worth checking real availability before planning anything. To get there, the most practical thing is to fly to Palma de Mallorca and take the Ma-13 motorway to Sa Pobla, and then the Ma-12 to Can Picafort; the journey is about forty-five minutes by car. If you don't drive, there are TIB buses from the airport with a transfer in Palma, but they take more than an hour and a half. Once there, almost everything can be done on foot, although to go to Alcúdia or the northern beaches, such as Son Serra de Marina, you'll need a vehicle or use the local bus.
Before booking, take a good look at what the price includes: some apartments don't have a 24-hour reception and ask you to arrive before eight in the evening, or charge a supplement for towels and bed linen. Also check whether the accommodation has a lift, because many three-storey buildings don't have one, and whether the kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher or just the basics. The photos are usually of the renovated apartments, not the standard ones, so read recent comments about the real condition of the rooms. Lastly, pay attention to the cancellation policy: non-refundable rates are cheaper, but if something unexpected comes up, you lose your money. With this information, choosing between the Maracaibo Aparthotel, the Acapulco Apartments, the Mar Brava Apartments or the Wonderful, a hundred metres from the beach, will be a matter of adjusting your priorities.
The low season, from April to May and from October to November, is when prices drop the most, with rates from 113 euros. In June and September the balance between weather and cost is good, but in July and August prices soar.
If you prioritise the beach and the promenade, choose the seafront, although there is more noise. If you prefer tranquillity and a better price, look for interior streets near the plaza, less than ten minutes' walk from the sand.
By car, along the Ma-13 to Sa Pobla and then the Ma-12, it takes about forty-five minutes. By bus, the TIB requires a transfer in Palma and the journey takes more than an hour and a half.
Many require arrival before eight in the evening if there is no 24-hour reception, and some charge a supplement for cleaning or bed linen. Non-refundable rates are cheaper, but they don't allow changes or cancellations.
For the town and the beach you don't need one, everything is close by on foot. But if you want to visit Alcúdia, the northern coves or the port of Pollença, a car gives you much more freedom than the local bus, which runs infrequently.
