Apartments in Cotillo

Cotillo, in the north of Fuerteventura, is a small town that has grown around its main beach, El Cotillo, and the Lagos area, some natural pools to the west. Most of the apartments are concentrated in two areas: the old town, near the port and the pedestrian street, and the new area that goes up towards the southern beaches, such as Los Lagos or Piedra Playa. If you prefer to have restaurants, supermarkets and the village atmosphere right on your doorstep, the old town suits you better. If what you are looking for is peace and quiet and being a two-minute walk from the natural pools, the Los Lagos area is more suitable, although to go out for dinner you will have to walk about ten or fifteen minutes or take the car.

The main difference between one area and another is the noise and the proximity to the sea. In the old town there is more activity, especially in high season, and the apartments tend to be older, with terraces overlooking narrow streets. In the Los Lagos area and towards the lighthouse, the buildings are more modern, many with a communal pool and ocean views, but they are also more exposed to the wind, which in Cotillo blows almost all year round. To choose well, think about whether you are going to spend the day at the beach or at the pool, and whether nighttime noise matters to you. The apartments near the port are the cheapest, but also the ones with the liveliest bar scene.

As for the price, Cotillo is cheaper than Corralejo or the south of the island, but don't expect bargains in August or at Easter. The months of May, June, September and October are the best for finding low rates without giving up good weather. In winter, from December to February, prices drop even more, but the water is cold and the wind can be annoying. To get there, the usual thing is to fly to Fuerteventura (El Matorral airport) and hire a car: it is about 45 minutes along the FV-1 and then the FV-101. Without a car, there are guaguas (line 8 from Puerto del Rosario) that leave you in the town, but to get to the northern beaches or to Corralejo you will need to wait for limited schedules. Before booking, check whether the apartment has heating (in winter the nights drop below 15 degrees), whether the wifi is fibre or ADSL, and whether the kitchen is equipped with a ceramic hob or only with rings. Also check whether the accommodation is on a floor without a lift, because many buildings do not have one, and whether the pool is open all year or only in summer.
