If you are looking at an apartment in Logroño, the first thing you should know is that the offer is wide and varied: there are 282 tourist apartments in the city, with an average price of 175 euros per night and the lowest from 66 euros. The average category is around 3.6 stars, so you will find everything from very basic options to others with more charm. Most are concentrated in the old town and its surroundings, which is where it is worth staying if you want to walk to almost everything.
The Casco Antiguo area, around calle Laurel and Plaza del Mercado, is the liveliest. Here you have the famous "camino de los elefantes" (the bar route) and the catedral de Santa María de la Redonda just a step away. Of course, at night there is noise, especially on weekends, so if you are looking for absolute rest, better look for a side street or a flat with interior windows. A real example is the NERALE Loft Downtown Plaza Mercado, which is right in the centre and usually has good ratings for its location, although do not expect a large space: they are compact lofts.
Another interesting area is the one around the train station, south of the centre. It is quieter and usually somewhat cheaper. There are options such as the "Centrico Apartament al lado de la estacion de tren" or the "A 5 minutos Estac Tren céntrico y estiloso", which allow you to reach the centre on foot in ten minutes and, if you come by train, you do not even need to take a taxi. There are also apartments near the cathedral, such as the "Apartamento Logroño Catedral y Aire Acondicionado", which combine proximity to the old town with an area somewhat less bustling than calle Laurel.
As for prices, high season is from June to September and during the fiestas de San Mateo (at the end of September). If you can, travel in May, October or November: prices drop quite a bit and the weather is still pleasant for walking. Weekends also go up, so if your schedule is flexible, from Sunday to Thursday you will find better rates. To get there, Logroño has medium-distance trains from Zaragoza, Bilbao and Madrid (with a transfer in Miranda de Ebro), and the bus station is well connected. Once there, almost the whole centre is covered on foot; if you need to go further, the city buses are enough and the taxi is cheap compared to other capitals.
Before booking, check three things: whether the apartment has a lift (many are in old buildings without one), whether the heating or air conditioning works well (in winter it is really cold) and whether the price includes cleaning or an energy supplement. It is also worth checking whether the accommodation has a tourist licence, which usually appears in the listing; if you do not see it, ask before paying. And be careful with apartments that advertise "centro" but are actually on the outskirts: always check the exact address on the map.
The average price is around 175 euros per night, although you can find options from 66 euros. It is cheaper on weekdays and outside high season, especially in May, October and November.
Spring and autumn are ideal because of the weather and because there are fewer crowds. Avoid August and the fiestas de San Mateo if you are looking for peace and lower prices.
The Casco Antiguo, near calle Laurel and the cathedral, is the best option if you want to go out for tapas and see the monuments on foot. If you prefer silence, look near the train station or side streets in the centre.
You can arrive by train from Zaragoza, Bilbao or Madrid (with a transfer), or by bus from several cities. Once there, the centre is easily covered on foot; for longer distances, there are city buses and reasonably priced taxis.
Check whether it has a lift, whether the heating or air conditioning works, and whether the price includes cleaning or supplements. Also make sure it has a tourist licence and that the address they advertise is really central.
