If you are looking at apartments in Ruidera, the first thing you should know is that most of them are concentrated around the Parque Natural de las Lagunas de Ruidera, a protected area that extends across the provinces of Ciudad Real and Albacete. The area is divided into two main centres: the village of Ruidera, to the west, and Ossa de Montiel, to the east. In the village of Ruidera you will find more services, supermarkets and restaurants, and from there you can access the lower lagoons, which are the quietest and shallowest. In Ossa de Montiel, on the other hand, you are closer to the upper lagoons, such as the Laguna Blanca or the Laguna Conceja, which are the most popular for swimming and hiking. If what you are looking for is silence and nature, you are better off staying on the outskirts of either of the two centres, where there are residential developments and scattered houses with large plots. If you prefer to walk to the bars or the river beach, choose an apartment in the urban centre of Ruidera, although you will have to put up with a bit more noise in high season.
The difference between some areas and others is especially noticeable in July and August. The upper lagoons, near Ossa de Montiel, fill up earlier and car access can become difficult at midday, so if you stay there, get up early or look for accommodation with a pool. The lower lagoons, on the other hand, are less crowded and have larger swimming areas, but the water tends to be murkier because of the vegetation. As for price, apartments drop noticeably outside the summer months. In May, June or September you can find nights from 70 euros, which is the minimum price the platform handles, while the annual average is around 130 euros. If your intention is to swim, June and September offer the best value for money: the water is at an acceptable temperature and you don't have the crowds of August. In winter, many accommodations close or reduce their opening days, so check availability carefully before planning.
To get there, the most practical option is by car. From Madrid it is about two and a half hours along the A-4 to Manzanares and then the CM-412, or along the A-43 if you are coming from the Levante. There is no direct train; the nearest station is Alcázar de San Juan or Albacete, and from there you would have to take a taxi or rent a car. Once in the area, a car is essential to move between the lagoons, because although there are hiking routes, the distances between points of interest exceed five kilometres. Before booking, check whether the apartment includes a garage space or private parking, because in August parking on the street is agony. Also check whether it has air conditioning, because July nights can be hot, and whether the kitchen is fully equipped, since eating out every day makes the trip more expensive. Finally, look at the photos of the terraces or porches: in Ruidera, life happens outdoors, and a good spot for having dinner in the fresh air makes all the difference.
The average price is around 130 euros per night, although you can find options from 70 euros. The cheapest months are May, June and September, outside the summer school holidays.
If you want to swim, June and September are ideal because the water is warm and there are fewer people than in August. For hiking and seeing the waterfalls with water, spring is spectacular, but swimming can be cold.
It depends on what you are looking for. Ruidera village has more services and is close to the lower lagoons, which are quieter. Ossa de Montiel is closer to the upper lagoons, the most photographed and crowded, but with fewer restaurant options.
There is no direct train. You can get there by bus to Manzanares or Albacete and then take a taxi, but it is expensive and impractical. The recommended option is to go by your own or a rental car, because the distances between the lagoons are long.
Most ask for an advance payment of 30% or the first night, and the rest is paid on arrival. In high season, many require minimum stays of two or three nights, and free cancellation is usually limited to 7 or 14 days before check-in.
