The excursion

Step aboard for a rollicking ramble through Bristol's Old Town and Harbourside, calling at five storied pubs and taverns steeped in salty legend. Your local guide, dressed in full pirate costume, spins yarns of the fearsome Blackbeard and the notorious castaway whose real-life misadventures inspired Robinson Crusoe. As you raise a tankard in each tavern you'll chart the rise and fall of the Golden Age of Piracy, spy smugglers' tunnels and drink in Long John Silver's own haunt. The tour begins outside the Hatchet Inn, Bristol's oldest pub and once the haunt of Blackbeard, where your guide describes the Golden Age of Piracy before your first drink. You are then led down cobbled alleyways towards the harbourside, past King Street's merchants' houses and streets that were once the hunting ground of press gangs, visiting Robinson Crusoe's first port of call and the Hole in the Wall, which features as Long John Silver's pub in Treasure Island. At each of the five pubs you receive one drink and hear tales of swashbuckling adventure. The tour finishes at the Ostrich Inn on the waterfront, a stone's throw from Blackbeard's birthplace, where you can sing sea shanties with the locals while observing the smugglers' tunnel still visible in the walls. Price: £55 per adult, including 5 drinks. Private bookings only, up to 16 people. Distance: 1.5 miles. Includes steps and stairs and dark or dimly lit areas; accessible toilets available.
