The excursion

If this is your first time in Cappadocia, the Red Tour is the most complete one-day introduction to the region. After hotel pick-up you start in Devrent Valley, where wind and rain have sculpted the volcanic rock into shapes of camels, seals and human figures. At Zelve Open-Air Museum you walk through an ancient cave settlement inhabited until the 1950s, with rock-carved churches, monastery tunnels and living quarters. In Paşabağ (Monks Valley) you walk among the most famous multi-headed fairy chimneys, once used as hermit shelters. In Avanos a master potter shapes the red clay of the Kızılırmak River on a traditional kick-wheel, and at a hand-weaving workshop you see how silk turns from cocoon to carpet. After an open buffet lunch of regional cuisine, the afternoon brings you to Love Valley and finally to Uçhisar Castle, the highest natural point of Cappadocia, for a 360-degree panorama.
