The excursion

This 13-day private tour, driven throughout by a dedicated chauffeur guide, crosses Sri Lanka from the western coast to the Cultural Triangle, up into the hill country, down through the southern wildlife parks and rainforest, and on to the beaches of the south coast. It begins in Negombo before tracing a route through Anuradhapura, Avukana, Dambulla, Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa, where ancient capitals, cave temples and royal ruins chart centuries of Sri Lankan history. From the Cultural Triangle the route climbs to Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, taking in tea country, colonial-era townscapes and the Temple of the Tooth Relic, then drops south through Ella's hills to the wildlife of Udawalawe National Park and the rainforest of Sinharaja. The final days are spent on the southwest coast around Bentota, with a visit to Galle Fort and the Madu River, before a last look at Colombo on the way to the airport. Travellers come away with a broad sweep of Sri Lanka in one trip: archaeological sites, hill-country scenery, a national park safari, a rainforest walk, a turtle hatchery, a historic fort town and open beach time, all linked by road without the need to arrange separate transport between regions.
A 13-day private driving tour across Sri Lanka's ancient cities, hill country, wildlife parks and southern beaches.
