Hotels in A Coruña

When looking for accommodation in A Coruña, the first thing you should be clear about is that the city is divided into several areas with very distinct personalities. The historic center and the Marina area are ideal if you want to walk to almost everything: Plaza de María Pita, the Tower of Hercules, or the tapas bars in the old town. Here you will mainly find apartments and guesthouses, with a livelier atmosphere and, in summer, a bit more noise. If you prefer peace and quiet and the beach, the Riazor or Orzán area lets you sleep a step away from the promenade, although to get to the center you will have to walk about twenty minutes or take a city bus. The Monte Alto neighborhood is another more economical and authentic option, but with steep slopes that not everyone handles well.

The main difference between one area and another lies in the balance between price, comfort, and atmosphere. Apartments, which are the majority option in the city with 258 available, usually work out more cost-effective if you travel as a couple or in a group, because they allow you to cook and do laundry. Hotels, only 44, are concentrated mainly in the ensanche and near the train station, and are generally more expensive. Vacation homes, also 44, are more scattered and are usually designed for long stays or families. If your budget is tight, guesthouses and hostels, such as Saudade Hostal Cafetería or Pensión Las Rías, offer the basics without luxuries, but with a good location.

As for prices, the city average is 132 euros per night, although you can find rooms from 46 euros if you book in advance and outside high season. The months of July and August are the most expensive, as are the weeks of Easter and the May bridge. If you can, travel in June or September: the weather is good and prices drop considerably. To get there, Alvedro airport is about twenty minutes by car from the center, and there are shuttle buses connecting with the bus station. If you come by train, San Cristóbal station is well connected to the center by bus or taxi. To get around the city, the most practical thing is to walk, but the city bus network works well and costs little. Before booking, check if the accommodation has an elevator, because many old buildings do not have one, and confirm whether the price includes cleaning or tourist taxes, which are sometimes added at the end.
