When looking for accommodation in Aracena, the first thing you should be clear about is that the town is divided into two very distinct areas: the old town and the outskirts or surrounding area. The old town, around Plaza de San Pedro and calle Granada, is where the life is: bars, restaurants, the church and the castle. Staying there lets you walk everywhere and parking on the street is difficult, so if you come by car, look for hotels with parking or be prepared to use the park-and-ride areas. The outskirts area, especially towards the Seville road or the exit towards Jabugo, has easier parking and tends to be quieter, but to have dinner or go for a walk you will have to take the car or walk fifteen or twenty minutes.
In the surroundings of the town, just a few kilometres away, you will find country houses and villas that are the preferred option if you come as a group or with family. The main difference is space and independence: in a holiday home you have a kitchen, living room and garden, while in a hotel or apartment in the centre you gain convenience and services. Of the 85 accommodations available in the area, 43 are holiday homes and 31 apartments, so the bulk of the offer is of this type. Hotels, only 9, are concentrated in the town centre and tend to be small, three or four stars. The average category of the whole is 3.4 stars, so don't expect big chains or luxury: here authenticity and the surroundings are valued more.
As for prices, the lowest is around 81 euros per night and the average is 131 euros. If you want a better price, avoid the spring and October weekends, when the ham days are held and there is a lot of demand. The months from November to February, on weekdays, are the cheapest, and also the rainiest. To get there, the most practical option is the car: Aracena is about 90 kilometres from Seville on the A-66, and about 110 from Huelva capital. There are buses from Seville (Damas line) that take around an hour and a half, but to move around the sierra and visit villages such as Alájar or Fuenteheridos you will need your own vehicle. Before booking, check whether the accommodation has heating (in winter it really gets cold), whether it allows pets and whether the price includes cleaning or bed linen, because in country houses these are sometimes charged separately. It is also worth confirming whether access is by paved road or by track, especially if you come with a low car.
The average price per night is around 131 euros, although you can find options from 81 euros. The difference depends mainly on the season and the type of accommodation: large houses for groups tend to be more expensive per night, but if you travel with others, the cost per person drops quite a bit.
The best time in terms of value for money is from November to February, on weekdays, when demand drops and prices are more reasonable. In spring and in October, with the ham days, prices rise and it is difficult to find availability, so if your visit is flexible, avoid those periods.
If you want to walk to the bars and monuments, choose the old town, but bear in mind that parking is difficult. If you come by car and prefer peace and quiet, look on the outskirts or in the surrounding area, where there are more country houses and easy parking, although you will need the vehicle for everything.
The most comfortable option is the car, on the A-66 from Seville or on the N-433 from Huelva. There are buses from Seville, but once in the town, to visit the sierra and the nearby villages, it is best to have your own car, since the distances are short but public transport between villages is scarce.
Look carefully at whether the price includes final cleaning, bed linen and towels, because in many country houses these are charged separately. Also check whether there is heating, whether pets are allowed and whether access is by paved road, especially in winter. And always confirm the cancellation policy, because in small accommodations it tends to be strict.
