Biescas is an excellent starting point for getting around the Aragonese Pyrenees without being stuck in one specific valley. You have sixty accommodations to choose from, and most are apartments (forty-six), so if you're looking for independence to cook or to go with children, that will be your most common option. There are also eight holiday homes, four hotels and two guest houses. The average price is around 156 euros per night, although you can find something for 96 if you book early or in low season. The average category is three stars, so don't expect great luxuries, but you will find decent, well-located establishments.
When choosing an area, distinguish between the town centre and the exit towards the valleys. In the centre of Biescas you have the advantage of walking to bars, supermarkets and the medical centre, and of having easy access to the bus station. If you come in summer and are interested in the municipal swimming pool or the park, it also works well for you. On the other hand, on the road towards Sabiñánigo or towards the Tena valley there are residential developments with quieter chalets and apartments, with a garden or common areas, but you will need a car for everything. Hotel La Rambla, for example, is right in the centre, while options such as the penthouse with pool, tennis and barbecue are usually in those peripheral residential developments. Think about what you prefer: not using the car or having more space and quiet.
Prices drop considerably outside July, August and Easter. In May, June or September you find clear deals, and also on weekdays from November to March, unless there is a long weekend. To get there, the most practical way is to drive on the A-23 to Sabiñánigo and then the N-260; from Zaragoza it is just over two hours. By bus, there are regular lines from Huesca and Zaragoza that leave you in the centre. Once there, if you don't have a vehicle, getting to the villages of the Tena valley is complicated, so consider renting one. Before booking, check whether the price includes bed linen and towels, because in many apartments they are charged separately, and check whether the heating is diesel or electric, because in winter it can make the stay more expensive if it is not included. It is also worth confirming whether the accommodation is on a third floor without a lift, something common in the old buildings in the centre.
Low season, especially from November to March on weekdays, outside long weekends and ski week. May and June are also usually cheap, before summer begins. If you come in August or at Easter, you will pay the most.
The town centre of Biescas, because you have services on foot and the bus stop nearby. The peripheral residential developments are quieter, but they are twenty or thirty minutes on foot from the centre. If you don't drive, look for accommodation between plaza Mayor and avenida de Francia.
An apartment, because there are forty-six and they usually have a kitchen and space for several guests. Holiday homes are better if you need separate rooms or a garden, but they usually cost more. There are only four hotels, so if you prefer full board, book in advance.
There are buses from Zaragoza and Huesca that stop in the town centre, with several services a day. From the Biescas bus station you can walk to almost any accommodation in the town centre. For the residential developments, you will have to walk or take a taxi.
Check whether the price includes sheets, towels and final cleaning, because in many apartments they are charged separately. Also look at the cancellation policy, which is usually stricter in high season. And ask whether heating or the garage are included, because sometimes they are supplements.
