Excursions with locals
Calella has 93 accommodations on our platform, with an average price of 146 euros per night and the lowest at 74. The offer is divided among 39 hotels, 39 apartments, 4 aparthotels, 3 villas, 2 bed and breakfasts and 2 vacation homes. The average category is around 3.4 stars, so you'll find simple options and also some with more services, such as the Neptuno Hotel & SPA or the Hotel Oasis Park Splash, designed for families. If you prefer independence, the Apartamentos Comfort Calella or the Apartment Oliver are practical alternatives.
The area where you stay largely shapes the experience. The center, around the plaza de la Iglesia and calle Sant Josep, is the most convenient if you want to walk everywhere: shops, bars, supermarkets and the train station. From there, the playa Grande is about a ten-minute walk away. The port area and the promenade are quieter at night and have direct access to the beach, but prices tend to go up a bit. The la Murtra neighborhood, to the north, is further from the bustle and is ideal if you're looking for quiet, although you'll need to walk more or use the car to go down to the center. The upper part, near the N-II road, is usually the cheapest, but also the least practical without a vehicle.
As for prices, July and August are the most expensive months and have the highest occupancy. If you can, travel in June or September: the weather is still good for the beach and accommodations drop quite a bit. Spring and autumn are perfect if you don't mind not swimming, because prices fall even more. To get there, the most comfortable option from Barcelona is the R1 line train, which takes about an hour and leaves you at the Calella station, five minutes from the center. By car, the C-32 highway gets you there in about 50 minutes, but in summer parking in the center is complicated and expensive. Within the town, almost everything is reached on foot; to go to nearby coves or towns like Tossa de Mar, the best option is the bus or the car.
Before booking, check whether the accommodation includes breakfast or a kitchen, because that changes the daily budget. Also look at the cancellation policy: many apartments require advance payment and do not refund if you cancel at short notice. If you're traveling with children, check whether the pool is seasonal and whether there is entertainment, because not all hotels offer it. And be careful with the real distance to the beach: some listings say "200 meters" but as the crow flies, and then there are slopes. Lastly, read recent reviews about nighttime noise, especially in the center, where bars can make the night go on longer.
From October to May, except Easter and long weekends, is when rates drop the most. June and September offer a balance between good weather and moderate prices. July and August are the most expensive, by far.
The promenade area and the surroundings of the Hotel Oasis Park Splash are the most comfortable, because you have the beach next to you and nearby dining options. The center also works, but there is more noise at night. Avoid the upper part if you don't want to climb slopes with a stroller.
The R1 commuter train leaves from Barcelona and takes about 60-70 minutes to Calella. The station is about a five-minute walk from the center. There are also buses from the company Sagalés, but they take longer and depend on traffic.
Most ask for a 30% deposit when booking and the rest on arrival. Free cancellations are usually only available if you give more than 7 days' notice. Hotels, on the other hand, usually allow cancellation up to 24-48 hours before at no cost.
In general, apartments are somewhat cheaper per night, but they add final cleaning fees that don't always appear in the initial price. Hotels include services such as 24-hour reception and daily cleaning, which justifies part of the difference. Always compare the total price, not just the rate per night.
