Hervás is an inland destination that people visit mainly for its Jewish quarter and the surroundings of the sierra de Béjar, so choosing accommodation depends on what you want to have closest at hand. If your plan is to stroll through the old town, eat in its bars and not use the car at all, you should look for something in the center, near the plaza or calle Braulio Navas. There you will find mainly apartments, which are the most abundant option: of the 41 accommodations in the municipality, 27 are apartments. They are ideal if you are traveling as a couple or with children, because they let you organize your own schedule and not depend on a restaurant's hours. That said, the center can be noisy in summer or on long-weekend holidays, so if you prefer quiet, look at options on the more secondary streets or on the outskirts.
If what you are looking for is nature or silence, stay in the peripheral areas, especially toward the Garganta de Puricó or toward the road that climbs up to the sierra. There you will find vacation homes and a few villas, which are only 6 and 1 respectively, but they offer more space and a garden or terrace. The main difference from the center is that you will need a car to go out for dinner or to do the shopping, although in exchange you will get views and rest that you cannot get in the old town. The hotels, which are only 5, are spread between the center and the entrance to the town, and they are a good option if you do not want to worry about anything other than sleeping and having breakfast. The only accommodation with breakfast included is a bed and breakfast, and the only aparthotel combines the best of both worlds if you are traveling with little luggage.
As for price, the average is around 94 euros per night, but you can find rooms from 54 euros if you book on weekdays and outside high season. The months of July and August, and the weeks of Easter and Christmas, are the most expensive and have the least availability. If you can, travel in May, June or September: the weather is good for hiking routes and prices drop quite a bit. To get there, the most comfortable option is by car, because Hervás is about 20 minutes from the A-66 highway and has easy parking on the outskirts. There is also a medium-distance train that stops at the Hervás station, but it is one kilometer from the center, so you will have to walk or take a taxi. To get around the town, everything is on foot: it is small and the distances are short, although the streets of the Jewish quarter are steep and cobbled, so wear comfortable shoes.
Before booking, check whether the accommodation has heating or air conditioning, because in winter it gets really cold and in summer the old houses in the center can be hot. Also check whether the price includes bed linen and towels, because in some apartments they charge for them separately, and whether there is a minimum number of nights on weekends. Finally, look at the photos of the stairs and the access: many buildings in the old town do not have an elevator and carrying suitcases up spiral staircases is not what you want after a long trip.
The months of May, June and September are the most balanced, with pleasant temperatures and lower rates than in summer. Avoid July, August, Easter and Christmas if you want to pay less than 70 euros per night.
The center, especially around the plaza and the Jewish quarter, is the most practical because everything is on foot. Accommodations on the outskirts or in the sierra are quieter, but you will need a vehicle to get around.
You can use the medium-distance train that stops at the Hervás station, although it is one kilometer from the old town. From there, a taxi or about a 15-minute walk will take you to the center, but there is no city bus.
Most ask for a 30% deposit in advance and the rest on arrival, and they usually offer free cancellation up to 48 hours before. Some require a minimum stay of two nights on weekends, so read it carefully before paying.
There is a bed and breakfast accommodation and an aparthotel that offer breakfast, in addition to traditional hotels. Pure apartments do not include it, but almost all have an equipped kitchen so you can make it yourself.
