If you are looking at accommodation in Huelva, the first thing you should know is that the offer is varied and, above all, very focused on apartments. Of the 154 accommodations in the province, 113 are apartments, which gives you a lot of flexibility if you are travelling as a family or in a group and prefer to cook or have more space than in a hotel room. The average price is around 120 euros per night, although you can find options from 57 euros if you book in advance or in low season. The average category is 3.6 stars, so don't expect widespread great luxury, but you will find decent, well-located establishments.
As for the areas, it is worth distinguishing between the capital and the coast. In Huelva capital, staying near the centre lets you walk to the Plaza de las Monjas, the Casa Colón or the Muelle de las Carabelas, and you have easy access to bars and restaurants. Examples such as the Apartamento Luxury Home Huelva Zona centro or Huelva Art are in that vein. If what you are looking for is the beach, the Punta Umbría and Mazagón area is the most practical: twenty or thirty minutes by car from the city, with fine sand and a more relaxed atmosphere. There you will find more holiday homes and villas, which are the best value if you are travelling with several adults or children, because they usually have a garden or terrace. Guest houses, although there are only four in the whole province, are an economical option in the town centre, but check carefully whether they have a reception or are self-managed, because not all of them offer the same service.
To get there, the most comfortable option is by car. Huelva is well connected by motorway to Sevilla (one hour) and to Portugal (half an hour to the border). If you come by train, the Huelva station is about a ten-minute walk from the centre, but to get to the beaches or the sierra de Aracena you will need your own vehicle or to rent one, because public transport between towns is scarce and infrequent. As for prices, high season (July and August) sends rates soaring, especially on the coast. If you can, travel in May, June or September: the weather is still good for the beach and accommodation drops quite a bit. Before booking, check whether the price includes final cleaning, because in many apartments it is not included and they charge you for it on arrival. It is also worth reviewing the cancellation policies, especially if you travel in winter, when the weather is more uncertain. And if you decide on a hotel, the Senator Huelva is one of the few with a pool in the city, useful if you go with children and don't want to depend on the beach.
The average price is around 120 euros, but you can find apartments from 57 euros if you book in advance or outside high season. In July and August, the average rises notably, especially on the coast.
May, June and September are the most balanced months: the weather is good for the beach and prices are lower than in summer. In winter, the city is quiet and cheap, but it rains frequently and many holiday homes close.
If you are interested in history, gastronomy and getting around on foot, choose the capital. If what you want is beach and rest, Punta Umbría or Mazagón are better, although you will need a car for everything.
In the capital you can walk to almost everything, and there are city buses for the outskirts. To go to the beach or the sierra, public transport is very limited, so the most practical thing is to rent a car at the station or at the Sevilla airport.
Always check whether the price includes final cleaning, because in many apartments it is charged separately. Also review the cancellation policy and whether there is a security deposit, which is usually returned on departure if there is no damage.
