Lloret de Mar has more accommodation options than you might imagine: at HotelsCasa you'll find 767 options, from apartments to villas, with an average price of 185 euros per night and the lowest at 52 euros. Most are apartments (319) and villas (238), so if you're looking for a hotel, there are 100, and the rest are divided between holiday homes, guest houses and the occasional pension like Hostal - Pensión El Amigo. The average category is around 3.4 stars, which gives you an idea that it's not a generally luxurious destination, but rather one of sun, beach and nightlife.
To choose an area, first think about what you're going to do. If you want beach and seafront promenade, the Fenals area is quieter than the center, with a wide cove and less noise at night. The center, around Lloret beach and Sant Pere street, is where the partying, bars and nightclubs are; it's best to stay there if you don't mind the bustle and want to walk everywhere. If you're looking for nature and silence, the Santa Cristina or Cala Canyelles residential developments are further away, but you'll need a car to go down to the beach or go shopping. Villas and holiday homes are concentrated in these residential areas, while apartments and hotels are closer to the town center.
As for prices, going in July or August is not the same as in May or September. High season drives rates up, and the average price of 185 euros rises considerably in August; if you can, travel in June or the second half of September, when the water is still warm and prices drop by up to 30%. To get there, the most practical option is to fly to Girona (30 km away) or Barcelona (75 km away); from there, a direct bus or a private transfer will get you to Lloret in less than an hour and a half. If you're driving, keep in mind that parking in the center in summer is expensive and complicated, so look for accommodation with a space included. Before booking, check whether the price includes final cleaning, bed linen and towels, and whether there's a security deposit; in apartments and villas it's common, and it can mean an extra 50 to 150 euros that they refund when you leave. Also check the real distance to the sea: many listings say "5 minutes", but on foot it can be half an hour uphill.
The average price is around 185 euros, but you can find options from 52 euros if you book in advance or in low season. Apartments are usually cheaper than hotels, and villas are the most expensive, especially in August.
June and September are the ideal months: it's warm, the sea is good and prices are lower than in July and August. Avoid Easter if you don't like crowds, because prices go up without the weather being guaranteed.
Fenals is the best option: it has a wider, less crowded beach, and there's less nighttime noise than in the center. You can also look at holiday homes in Santa Cristina, but you'll need a car for everything.
From Girona there are direct buses to Lloret, and from Barcelona you can take a bus or a train to Blanes and then a taxi. Within the town, almost everything is on foot if you stay in the center or in Fenals; for the residential developments, it's better to rent a car.
Check whether the price includes final cleaning, sheets and towels, because in many cases they're charged separately. Also ask about the security deposit: they usually ask for between 50 and 150 euros that they refund when you leave, and make sure whether parking is included or has an additional cost.
