Muros is one of those places where it's worth thinking carefully about where you stay, because the town and the estuary offer quite different experiences. If what you're looking for is having everything on hand, the old town and the seafront promenade are the most convenient option: the bars, the shops and the port are just a few minutes' walk away, and at night there's some life without it being noisy. On the other hand, if you prefer peace and views of the water, the roads that skirt the estuary, especially towards Louro or the Esteiro area, have houses and apartments with a garden or terrace where the only sound is that of the seagulls. The main difference is that: in the centre you gain practicality, on the outskirts you gain space and scenery, at the cost of taking the car for almost everything.
As for prices, don't expect great deals in July and August, because that's when demand is highest and accommodation prices go up. If you can, look at May, June or September: the weather is still good, there are fewer people and prices drop quite a bit. In fact, the average price in the area is around 136 euros per night, but finding something for 75 euros is not unusual if you book in advance or outside high season. That said, bear in mind that the offer is varied: there are 47 accommodations in total, with a majority of apartments (19) and holiday homes (15), so the classic hotel is in the minority. If you're looking for something like a guesthouse or a bed and breakfast, you also have five options, and there are only two aparthotels and one villa. The average rating is 3.6 stars, so don't expect great luxuries, but rather decent, well-kept establishments.
To get there, the most practical thing is the car: from Santiago it takes about forty minutes along the AC-543, and from A Coruña a little over an hour. If you come by bus, there are regular lines from both cities, but then to get around the estuary you'll need your own vehicle or take a taxi, because the distances between the beaches and the viewpoints are not easy to cover on foot. Before booking, take a good look at whether the accommodation includes a parking space or nearby parking, because in the centre the streets are narrow and parking in August is torture. It's also worth checking whether the kitchen is equipped for cooking, because in many apartments it's a strong point, and whether the owner requires a minimum stay of three or four nights in summer, something common in holiday homes. Lastly, pay attention to recent reviews about noise and insulation, especially in the old town, and to whether the heating works well, because winter nights on the coast are cold and damp. With that, you'll get it right without surprises.
The average price is around 136 euros, although you can find options from 75 euros if you book early or outside high season. In August, it normally goes up, so if you're looking to stick to a budget, avoid the central weeks of summer.
May, June and September are the most balanced months: good weather, fewer crowds and lower prices than in July and August. If you like a festive atmosphere, summer is ideal, but you'll have to pay more and share the beaches with more people.
It depends on what you're looking for: the old town and the seafront promenade are perfect if you want to walk everywhere, but they can be noisy. The areas towards Louro or Esteiro offer peace and views, although you'll need a car to go down to the town or the beach.
There are buses from Santiago and A Coruña, but once there, getting around the estuary is complicated without your own vehicle. If you don't drive, consider staying in the centre and using taxis for excursions, or renting a car in the city of origin.
Always look at the cancellation policy, because many holiday homes require payment in advance and don't refund anything if you cancel at short notice. Also check whether there's a minimum stay in summer, whether bed linen and towels are included, and whether the final price includes cleaning or tourist taxes.
