Panticosa is not a big town, so the choice of accommodation depends more on what you want to do than on the distance to the center. The urban core, at about 1,100 meters of altitude, concentrates most of the apartments and hotels, and from there you walk out to the bars, supermarkets and the bus stop that goes up to the spa. If what you are looking for is total tranquility and you don't mind taking the car for everything, the vacation homes and some hotels on the outskirts, toward El Pueyo de Jaca or the accesses to the Tena valley, will give you more silence and easy parking, but you will have to drive for any errand.
The main difference between areas is in the altitude and the orientation. The old town, around the church and the square, is the liveliest and with the best access on foot, but the buildings are usually old and parking is scarce. The new area, toward the Escarrilla road, has more garage spaces and more modern accommodations, although you will walk a little more to go to the center. If you come in winter, keep in mind that the steep streets can freeze; in summer, on the other hand, any point is comfortable. For skiing, the practical thing is to stay near the road that goes up to Panticosa Balneario, but remember that access to the station parking lot fills up on weekends.
As for prices, January and February are the most expensive months if you coincide with long weekends or school vacations; March and April, except Easter, drop quite a bit. In summer, July and August have medium-high rates, but if you can go in June or September, you will find deals up to 30% cheaper. Apartments are the most economical option: the lowest price you will see is around 81 euros per night, and the average for the municipality is 247, so it is worth comparing among the 92 apartments and the 8 hotels. Before booking, check if the price includes bed linen, towels and final cleaning, because in apartments it is usually an extra. Also look at whether the accommodation has individual or central heating, and whether the hot water is enough for four people in a row, a classic in old buildings. To get there, the usual thing is to drive on the A-23 to Sabiñánigo and then the A-136; the bus from Zaragoza or Huesca leaves you in the town, but to move around the neighboring valleys you will need your own vehicle.
The average price is around 247 euros per night, although you can find options from 81 euros. The difference depends on the season, the type of accommodation and whether you book in advance.
June and September are the most balanced months: good weather and cheaper rates than in July and August. In winter, avoid long weekends and school vacation weeks if you want to pay less.
The center is ideal if you don't want to use the car to go eat or shop, but there is little parking. The outskirts are quieter and have easy parking, although you will need a vehicle for everything.
There are buses from Zaragoza and Huesca that leave you in the town, with several frequencies per day. Once there, to move around the valleys or to the spa, you will have to depend on taxis or organized excursions.
Check if the price includes sheets, towels and final cleaning, because in many apartments they are charged separately. Also ask about heating and hot water, especially in winter, and whether there is a deposit.
