Baeza is not a big city, and that works in your favor. Most tourist apartments are concentrated in the historic center, around plaza de España, plaza del Populo or calle San Francisco, because that is where the monumental offer is and also the life of bars and restaurants. Staying there allows you to walk to everything: the cathedral, the old universities, the walls or the paseo de las murallas with views of the Guadalquivir valley. The downside is that the old town has narrow streets and slopes, and parking can be a headache; many apartments do not have their own garage space, so you will have to use the public car parks scattered near the Puerta de Úbeda or the bullring.
If you prefer quiet and do not mind walking a little more, the area outside the walls, especially towards avenida de Andalucía or the carretera de Úbeda, offers larger apartments and easy street parking. The main difference between one area and another is that: monumental convenience versus practical convenience. In the center, the average price rises slightly, but not excessively; on the outskirts you find cheaper options and they are usually renovated apartments with more square meters. To get around, if you arrive by car, the best thing is to park at the entrance and explore the center on foot; if you come by train or bus, the station is about fifteen minutes on foot from the old town, and it is not worth renting a car just for day to day because Baeza is very walkable.
As for price, the 73 euros per night that you find as a minimum rate usually appears in low season, from November to February (except Christmas and long weekends), and booking two or three weeks in advance. The average price is around 109 euros, which is what you will pay in spring or autumn, which are also the best times for weather and fewer crowds. In June, during the night of San Juan, or in April with Semana Santa, prices rise and places sell out quickly. Before booking, check three things: whether the apartment is in a building without an elevator (many are old three-story houses), whether the heating or air conditioning works well (stone houses are cold in winter and hot in summer), and whether the owner requires a deposit or advance payment. It is also worth checking whether the kitchen has a dishwasher or washing machine, because not all include them, and whether the property registration is legal (VFTs, such as Adrian and Vanessa's or La Paz's, indicate it in the listing). Examples such as la Ventana del Guadalquivir or el Cerro del Alcázar give you an idea of the variety: from flats with river views to houses with a patio.
From November to February, outside long weekends and Christmas, is when prices drop the most, reaching 73 euros per night. It is also a good option on weekdays in March and October, when there is less demand than on weekends.
If you do not want parking problems, look for apartments in the area outside the walls, near avenida de Andalucía or the carretera de Úbeda. From there you can leave the car on the street for free and walk into the historic center in ten minutes.
The most comfortable option is by car on the A-32 or the A-4, but there are also buses from Madrid, Granada or Jaén that leave you at the Baeza station. The train does not reach the city; the nearest station is Linares-Baeza, about 20 kilometers away, with a bus connection.
Most ask for an advance payment of 30% or the first night, and the rest on arrival. Many require a deposit of between 50 and 100 euros that is returned on departure, and free cancellation is usually limited to 48 or 72 hours before check-in.
Yes, especially if you travel as a family or group, because you gain space and a kitchen to save on meals. Apartments are usually cheaper than hotels of a similar category, although you will have to manage the cleaning yourself and you will not have a 24-hour reception.
