Deltebre, in the heart of the Ebro delta, offers scattered accommodation that adapts to two very different ways of understanding a trip. On the one hand, the town centre, where you'll find services, supermarkets, bars and most of the cheapest apartments. On the other, the rural districts and the area around the river mouth, with isolated houses among rice fields and canals, ideal if you're looking for silence and direct contact with nature. On HotelsCasa there are currently 56 apartments available, with an average price of 133 euros per night and a minimum of 85. The average category is around 3.8 stars, so don't expect great luxury, but rather functional and well-located stays.
If you're interested in the beach, the Riumar area is the most practical: you're right on the sand with restaurants nearby, although in July and August the atmosphere is livelier and parking can be difficult. If you prefer peace and quiet, the houses in the Jesús i Maria area or next to the river give you more outdoor space and views of the crops, but you need a car for everything. The main difference between them isn't so much the quality of the apartment as the surroundings: in the town you'll have the market and the pharmacy at hand; on the outskirts, peace and a starry sky. To get around, the sensible thing is to arrive by car, because public transport is scarce and the distances between points of interest (the l'Encanyissada lagoon, the Tancada viewpoint, the Trabucador beach) are several kilometres. From Barcelona it takes about two hours via the AP-7 and the Tortosa road; from Valencia, a little under three.
As for prices, high season (June to September) sends rates soaring, especially in August. If you can, travel in May or October: the weather is still pleasant, there are fewer people and apartments drop quite a bit, sometimes below 100 euros. Before booking, check whether the accommodation includes bed linen and towels, because in many apartments in the area these are charged separately or you have to bring your own. It's also worth confirming whether the final price includes cleaning and whether the owner requires a deposit. And watch out for parking spaces: in Riumar they're scarce, so if you're driving, always ask. Real examples of what you'll find are the Apartamento Deltebre, Lo Rall, APARTAMENT 4 GATS or casarosana, all with different profiles but the same basis: functional, clean and close to what really matters in the delta, which is the landscape.
The lowest price is around 85 euros per night, although that's usually in low season and for stays of several days. In July and August, that same apartment can cost double or more.
May and October are the ideal months: temperatures are mild, there are few tourists and prices drop quite a bit compared to summer. June and September are a middle ground, but they're still expensive.
The Riumar area is the most comfortable, because you have the beach right next to you and you don't need to take the car for everything. That said, in August it's very busy, so if you're looking for calm, a house in the rural districts is better, although you'll need a vehicle.
Getting there by train or bus is possible as far as Tortosa or Amposta, but from there you'll have to take a taxi or an infrequent local bus. Once in Deltebre, getting around without a car is very complicated, so I recommend renting one or bringing your own.
First of all, whether the price includes sheets, towels and final cleaning, because in many cases these are charged separately. Also ask about the deposit, the arrival time and whether there's a parking space, especially if you're staying in Riumar.
