Deltebre, in the very heart of the Delta del Ebro, offers a catalogue of 71 houses spread between the town centre, the urbanisations next to the river and the agricultural areas closest to the beach. If you are looking for peace and direct access to nature, the houses in the La Marquesa or Riumar area are the most suitable: they are a five-minute walk from the sand and surrounded by rice fields, although in July and August the atmosphere gets quite lively. On the other hand, if you prefer to have services, markets and bars on hand without depending on the car, the houses in the town centre of Deltebre let you walk everywhere, and they also tend to be somewhat cheaper. The urbanisations of Els Muntells or La Cava, further inland, are a middle option: cheaper, quiet, but you need a vehicle for any journey.
The main difference between them is not only the location, but also the type of construction and equipment. There are 63 holiday houses, of which 3 are private (that is, you do not share with anyone), and 56 apartments that in many cases work just like a house but under a community arrangement. The 8 villas usually have a private pool and garden, and the 7 hotels and 2 guest houses are the alternative if you do not want to worry about cleaning or cooking. Examples such as Casa Baleso, Allotjament Casa M Cinta, Casa Les Buganvilles or Les Mercès show the variety: from renovated village houses with an interior patio to modern chalets with a barbecue and porch. Before booking, check carefully whether the house has air conditioning (in August it is almost essential), whether the kitchen is fully equipped to cook rice, and whether access to the beach is on foot or by car, because in the Delta distances are deceptive.
As for prices, the lowest is around 90 euros per night and the average stands at 251, with an average rating of 3.8 stars. If you want a better price, avoid the weeks of July and August and the Semana Santa long weekends: in May, June and September you can find the same house for 30 or 40% less, and the weather is still good for walking or swimming. To get there, the most practical way is by car: from Barcelona it is about two hours via the AP-7 and the Tortosa road, and from Valencia an hour and a half. If you come by train, the nearest station is L’Aldea-Amposta, about 15 minutes away by taxi or bus, but to get around the Delta you will need to hire a car or use a bicycle, which many houses provide. Before confirming, check the cancellation conditions, whether the final cleaning is included or paid separately, and whether there is a security deposit: in rural houses it is common for them to ask for between 100 and 200 euros, which they return on departure.
The average price is around 251 euros per night, although you can find options from 90 euros. Rates drop notably in May, June and September, outside the high season of July and August.
Spring and autumn are ideal because of the mild weather and because there are fewer people, perfect for hiking or birdwatching. In summer, the atmosphere is livelier but prices rise and houses fill up quickly.
If you want the beach on foot, Riumar and La Marquesa are the best options. If you prefer local life and services without a car, the town centre of Deltebre is more practical and cheaper.
By car is the most comfortable, via the AP-7 and the Tortosa road. If you come by train, the L’Aldea-Amposta station is 15 minutes away, but you will need to hire a car or use a bike to get around the Delta.
Most require a security deposit of between 100 and 200 euros, which is returned on departure, and some charge the final cleaning separately. Always check the cancellation policy, because in high season it is usually strict.
