Holiday homes and villas in Montejaque

Montejaque is a small village in the serranía de Ronda, in Málaga, that lives largely off rural tourism. Here you'll find eight holiday homes, plus a couple of apartments, a hotel and a guesthouse. Most of the accommodations are concentrated in the town centre or its immediate surroundings, so there are no major differences in location: from any point you can walk to the bar, the supermarket or the viewpoint. The real difference between one house and another lies in the size, the views and the services. For example, Casa Cabra is a classic option in the centre, while Los Trigos, Casa Rural, is more geared towards groups that want outdoor space. Mirador de Montejaque, as its name suggests, takes advantage of the village's slope to offer panoramic views of the valley, and the Magnífica casa con piscina privada is exactly what it advertises: a large house with a pool so you don't depend on the weather or the hours of sunshine.

If you're looking for peace and quiet, stay in the upper part of the village, near the church or the viewpoint; there the noise is minimal and the views open up towards the sierra. The lower part, next to the access road, is more convenient for arriving with a car loaded with suitcases, but it's also the area that puts up with the most local traffic. As for the price, the minimum you'll find is 81 euros per night, and the average is 293 euros. That big difference is explained by the fact that there are very basic houses for two people and others with capacity for eight or ten, with a pool, fireplace and garden. If you want to pay less, avoid bank holidays and Semana Santa, which is when prices rise the most; on the other hand, from November to February, outside of weekends, it's easy to find lower rates, although the cold in the sierra is real and you'll have to count on heating.

Getting to Montejaque isn't complicated, but it isn't a destination you just pass through either. From Ronda, which is about twenty minutes away by car, you take the MA-8403 road towards Benaoján and then continue along the MA-8404. There's no direct train or bus from Málaga capital; the most practical thing is to rent a car, because it will also let you get to the Garganta del Chorro, the Benaoján station or the villages on the bandolero route. Within the village, everything is done on foot, and for nearby excursions you'll need your own vehicle. Before booking, check three things carefully: whether the house has heating or air conditioning depending on the season, whether car access reaches the door or you have to go up stairs (in a village on a slope this is common), and whether the price includes bed linen, towels and final cleaning. It's also worth looking at the photos of the rooms, because some old houses have low ceilings or small bathrooms that aren't always apparent from the description.
