Hotels in Cotillo

Cotillo is a coastal village in the north of Fuerteventura, and the accommodation offer is concentrated mainly in two distinct areas. On one hand, there is the old town, around the square and the church, where you will find narrow streets, tapas bars and a more local atmosphere. On the other, the new area that stretches towards Los Lagos beach and the Torre del Tostón, with apartment and villa developments, many with a pool and just a few minutes' walk from the sea. If you are looking for peace and quiet and don't mind walking a bit for dinner, the Los Lagos area is ideal; if you prefer to have everything at hand, the centre will suit you better. There are also some scattered houses towards the south, near the road to Lajares, which tend to be cheaper but require a car no matter what.

The main difference between them is not so much the quality, which is similar, but the surroundings and access to services. In the old town, apartments tend to be smaller and with fewer facilities, but you gain atmosphere and proximity to restaurants. In the beach area, villas and holiday homes offer more space, a garden or terrace, and tend to be in quiet developments, although sometimes you depend on the car to go shopping or eat out. The hotels, of which there are only four, are spread between both areas and are the simplest option if you don't want to worry about anything other than the room.

As for prices, Cotillo is cheaper than the south of the island, but don't expect bargains in high season. The months of July and August are the most expensive, and so are Easter and bank holiday weekends. If you can, travel in May, June, September or October: the weather is still good for the beach and prices drop considerably. To get there, the most practical thing is to rent a car at Fuerteventura airport, which is about 45 minutes away; there are guaguas (buses) that reach Cotillo, but they are infrequent and don't allow you to move around the area freely. Within the village, everything can be done on foot, but to go to the unspoilt beaches nearby or to Lajares you need a vehicle.

Before booking, check carefully whether the accommodation has a full kitchen or just a microwave, because many apartments are self-catering and there is no large supermarket in the village (only small shops). Also check whether the price includes final cleaning or bed linen, because in houses and villas they sometimes charge it separately. And check recent reviews about noise: some developments are close to the main road and in summer there is quite a bit of traffic.
