Fuengirola is not a destination that runs out in a weekend, but it is worth choosing well where you stay to make the most of every day. The city stretches along about six kilometres of coast, and the central area, between the promenade and calle Genil, is the most practical if you want to walk to the beach, the bars and the train station. The marina, to the west, is quieter at night and has good restaurants, although to go to the centre you will have to walk about twenty minutes or take a city bus. To the east, towards Carvajal and Torreblanca, the beaches are wider and there are fewer crowds, but also fewer shops and less nightlife; it is a good option if you are travelling with family or looking to rest.

The main difference between some areas and others is the pace and the price. The centre and the promenade concentrate the largest offer of apartments and hotels, and they are the most expensive in high season. The surroundings of the train station, towards the interior, usually have lower rates and are well connected, although you will have to walk a little further to the beach. The area of Los Boliches, halfway between the centre and Carvajal, has a more neighbourhood atmosphere, with a market on Saturdays and beach bars frequented by locals; prices are usually somewhat lower than in the centre. If what you want is a villa or a house with a garden, you will find them above all on the slopes of El Higuerón or in developments to the east, where a car becomes almost essential.

As for the price, the low season (from November to March, except Easter) is when the average rate drops the most; in those months you can find nights from 63 euros in simple apartments. June and September offer good weather and intermediate prices, while July and August are the most expensive and with the highest occupancy. To get there, the airport of Málaga is about twenty minutes away by car or on the commuter train, which stops in Fuengirola every twenty minutes; there are also direct buses from the bus station of Málaga. Once there, the city bus network covers the entire seafront and costs little more than one euro, but many areas are easy to get around on foot. Before booking, check whether the accommodation includes air conditioning (in summer it is almost essential), whether it has a lift if you are going to an upper floor, and whether the kitchen is equipped with the basics if you plan to eat at home. It is also worth looking at recent reviews about noise, especially in the centre, and confirming whether the final price includes cleaning or tourist taxes, which sometimes do not appear at first glance.

Frequently asked questions

What is the average price per night in Fuengirola and when do I find the lowest rates?

The average price is around 207 euros per night, although there are options from 63 euros in low season. The months from November to March, outside holidays, are the cheapest; in July and August prices rise considerably.

Which area do you recommend if I am travelling with children and want a quiet beach?

The eastern area, between Carvajal and Torreblanca, has wider and less crowded beaches, and there are several apartments and houses with a garden. Of course, you will need a car or bus to go to the centre, because the promenade is far away.

How do I get from the airport of Málaga to Fuengirola?

The most comfortable option is the commuter train, which leaves from the terminal and takes about twenty minutes to the station of Fuengirola. There are also direct buses, but they take longer; the taxi costs about 40-50 euros depending on traffic.

What type of accommodation is most available in Fuengirola?

Most are apartments, with more than 1,400 options, followed by holiday homes and villas. Hotels are only about 40, so if you prefer this type of accommodation, it is advisable to book in advance in high season.

What conditions should I check before booking an apartment?

Check whether the price includes final cleaning and tourist taxes, because sometimes they are added later. Also look at whether air conditioning has an extra cost and whether cancellation is flexible, especially if you are travelling on dates that may change.
