Jaca has 106 accommodations in total, and the offer is distributed unevenly. Most are apartments (75), followed by hotels (19) and vacation homes (6). The average price is around 148 euros per night, although you can find options from 62 euros if you book in advance or outside high season. The average category is three stars, so don't expect great luxuries, but rather decent and well-located establishments.
To choose an area, first think about what you are going to do. If you come to ski, it is best to stay near the Astún or Candanchú road, north of the urban center, where there are several hotels and apartments that make it easy to leave quickly for the slopes. If you prefer the historic center, look between the Catedral and the Ciudadela: there you will have bars, restaurants, and the pedestrian atmosphere at hand, although parking can be a problem. The new area, around avenida de Francia and the park, is quieter and has easier parking, but you will have to walk ten or fifteen minutes to the center. Vacation homes are usually on the outskirts or in nearby villages, so if you are looking for silence and space, consider that option, although you will need a car for everything.
Prices drop considerably outside the ski season (December to March) and the San Lorenzo festivities in August. In spring and autumn, apartments can cost half as much as in January. To get there, the most practical option is by car: from Zaragoza it is about two hours via the A-23, and from France through the Somport tunnel. By train, the Canfranc station is about ten minutes away, but with few frequencies. Within Jaca, everything is on foot, and for the slopes there are shuttle buses in season. Before booking, check whether the accommodation includes heating (essential in winter), whether it has an elevator (many old buildings do not), and whether the price includes bed linen and towels, because in apartments they are sometimes charged separately. Also review the cancellation policy, especially if the plan depends on snow.
Spring and autumn, outside the ski season and the August festivities. Between April and June, and from September to November, prices drop considerably and you can find rooms from 62 euros. Of course, some restaurants and services reduce their hours outside high season.
The historic center, between the Catedral and the Ciudadela, is the most convenient because everything is on foot. From there you can walk to the bus station and the bars. If you need to take the bus to the slopes, look for something near avenida de Francia, where the lines stop.
It depends on what you are looking for. Apartments are cheaper for long stays and allow you to cook, but they usually have fewer services. Hotels, although there are fewer of them (19), offer reception and daily cleaning, which makes things easier if you come to ski and do not want to worry about anything.
In high season there are shuttle buses from the center to Astún and Candanchú, which leave early in the morning. If you come by car, it takes about 30 minutes to Astún and 40 to Candanchú, but parking fills up quickly. There are also taxis, although they are expensive for the trip.
First, the cancellation policy: in winter it is usually flexible up to 48 hours before, but in August it can be stricter. Check whether the price includes VAT and cleaning fees, and whether they ask you for a deposit. In apartments, ask about the arrival time, because many do not have 24-hour reception.
