The 10 best apartments in Aínsa

Aínsa is one of those places where accommodation largely shapes the trip, because the old town and the new area are completely different. If you're looking for a medieval atmosphere, cobbled streets, and bars with terraces, your best bet is to stay inside the walled enclosure, but bear in mind that parking is limited and that many houses are old, with stairs and no lift. Apartments in the old town are usually in renovated buildings, full of charm, but sometimes they lack light or the soundproofing isn't perfect. On the other hand, in the modern area, around avenida Sobrarbe and near the river, you'll find newer buildings, with garage parking and easy access, although you'll have to walk ten minutes to have dinner in the old town. If what matters to you is sleeping peacefully and getting around by car, this second option is more practical.

The price difference between one area and another isn't huge, but it is noticeable. Apartments in the old town usually ask for between 10 and 20 euros more per night, especially in high season, because demand is higher. If you travel in spring or autumn, prices drop quite a bit: the average price is around 146 euros per night, but in November or February you can find options for 105 euros. High season is July and August, and also the Semana Santa and December long weekends, when it's best to book weeks in advance. Outside those times, there's usually no problem finding availability even on the same day, although if you want a specific apartment, such as the Apartamento Somos Ainsa or the Apartamento Avenida, it's better not to risk it.

To get there, the usual way is by car, because Aínsa is about 130 kilometres from Huesca and 180 from Zaragoza, along mountain roads that are manageable but winding. The bus leaves from Huesca two or three times a day, but if you stay in the old town, the climb with suitcases from the stop is tough. Once there, almost everything is done on foot, and to go to the reservoir or the surrounding villages you need a vehicle. Before booking, check whether the apartment includes bed linen and towels, because some charge for them separately, and confirm whether the final price includes VAT and cleaning fees. Also look at the photos of the kitchen and bathroom in detail, because in old buildings they tend to be the tightest rooms. And if you travel in winter, ask about the heating: some apartments use electric radiators that make the stay more expensive if used a lot.
